Howie58
Greetings: The Flyers are moderate favorites (-125) for the game: https://pickdawgz.com/nhl-picks/2021-01-30/new-york-islanders-at-philadelphia-flyers-1-30-21-nhl-picks-and-prediction It's hard to believe the Isles are sub-.500 and having scoring issues. The Flyers are winning but 5x5 isn't good and AV wasn't very positive about his top lines after beating the Devils on Thursday. It looks like Hart versus Varlamov between the pipes. This is an interesting back-to-back against a team that made us look slow in the playoffs. Nate Prosser was sent back to the taxi squad. Myers may be ready to return. Zzeke
Jordan Hall wrote this afternoon - Konecny did not have a shot on goal and had two giveaways in 17:33 minutes of the Flyers' 3-1 win Thursday over the Devils. He played only 4:20 in the third period and played around 30 seconds in the final five minutes of the game. After the game, Vigneault was left displeased with and perplexed by the performances of his top two forward lines in the first two periods. Getting Morin a game in a back-to-back set would be one thing, but doing so at the expense of Konecny's spot in the lineup says something. This is the Flyers' first game against the team that eliminated them in a second-round Game 7 of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. OccamsRazor
Charlie O'Connor @charlieo_conn Replying to @charlieo_conn Konecny absolutely was one of the offenders. That 4-on-1 that was so ridiculous, for example, happened because Konecny -- at the end of a long PP shift -- didn't cycle up to the point to replace Ghost (who pinched down low), which gave PHI 4 tired players below the faceoff dots. Zzeke
They are expecting a physical game from the report below - By inserting Sam Morin for this game (maybe 2 games), AV may be sending an early message this season to the NYI as AV remembers the playoff series. From Eyes on Isles report: Betting Odds The Islanders come into today as the underdogs, courtesy of the Action network. It is no surprise that the Islanders are the underdogs tonight. The Flyers have a lineup with a lot of depth and should be a tougher matchup for the Isles compared to the Capitals. After the past three performances, expect the Islanders to be raring to go tonight and look for Philly to play a fast and physical game. AV meets with the media at 4:45 PM ET. Maybe he will reveal his intent, or more likely he will not. Edited January 30, 2021 by Zzeke
Zzeke
NYI tough guy Ross Johnston, RW, #32, is 6-5, 235 and will play tonight. Johnston is rarely bested when fists fly. According to HockeyFights.com, Ross Johnston has fourteen NHL fights in his career. Maybe AV inserts Sam Morin to counter Johnston running Flyers players?

I wasn't going to watch this car crash but now I may turn it on and watch to see Sammy play. It would be nice to see them show up against the team that ended their Cup hopes. Fingers crossed I can't call it.

RonJeremy
Sam was out of position and and chasing the puck on the shift when Mayfield scored . He looked like he wanted to play defense , he was down low between the circles instead of up high. I wish we could platoon him with Gus and Braun and finally see if he can play or not at least give him a real shot to get Braun out of the lineup. Howie58
My take: 1. The Bunnaman line was best. 2. Ghost seems to be playing intelligently and has mobility. He's earning his keep. 3. If we had a really top-tier first line, they'd break through the new and improved version of the Devils trap played by Trotz and company. I am glad we got the second point, but it seemed that the Islanders dug in after the second goal and made the Flyers look pretty inept. In prior years, we'd outshoot and win more faceoffs than our opponents, but find a way to lose. This year, we are getting outhit, outshot, and lose faceoffs..but find a way to win. Strange. Yes indeed, the amount of shots they are getting off is pathetic...something like 6-8 total shots after two periods the other night, not getting a shot off in 20 minutes last night...WTF? Hey, but they are winning, I'll take it but they can't keep this up, can they?
musky
I have no idea what the hell the isl were doing in ot playing with the puck in there zone rather then even shooting it they looked like they never played a 3 on 3 before.
