hf101
On January 2, 2012, at 7:15pm, three unknown males wearing Philadelphia Flyers Jerseys assaulted two males while at Geno's Steaks located at 1200 South 9th Street. The assault began after the Winter Classic hockey event and the male victims were wearing New York Rangers jerseys. During the altercation one of the victims were seriously injured.Broad Street Hockey originally posted the story, however it seems as if the "idiot suspect" commented about the assault on the BSH website and left his facebook page......and the whole story is being investigated.need I say wow.....http://www.broadstreethockey.com/2012/1/4/2682669/flyers-rangers-fan-fight-genos-steaks-winter-classic#storyjump

AlaskaFlyerFan
Of course, this will be talked about for the next 30 yrs, like booing Santa Clause, throwing batteries, etc.
Leach27
Yep It's 100% the nyr fans fault that we lost and that our goalies play like sh!t. They should have booed when there team won! How idiotic!!
mkscrewy
i wish i was that guy Ed Neary's dad so i could call him into the living room and say, "Ed, can you come here for a minute?" and then molly-*** the sh!t out of his head for being such a moron.in all seriousness though, this is really what I come to expect out of certain philly fans (not *all* philly fans) these days. I sat in section 429 at the WC next to some guys from North Jersey and plenty of other NYR fans as well as a lot of corporate "guests" (the "let's go, hockey!" fans, as my cousin so aptly said) and had no problems among them. however my experience at the WFC tells me nobody should be surprised by this kind of bs in the video. Alcohol, youth, and team affiliations have a bad way of mixing. I took my brother to two games two seasons ago and one ended with some jackass punching some girl's dad in the parking lot because the girl had the stones to tell jackass to "knock it off" after he was chanting "f**k the Bruins" for several minutes while we were all walking away from the WFC, and then ending it with "I'm from Philly, motherF**ker!" (all involved were Flyers fans, by the way.) The second game STARTED with some drunk sh!thead and his 65 year-old (I'm guessing) dad trying to fight us before the puck even dropped because they thought the cashier lady was taking too long ringing us up for our beers. My brother and I have been hanging out in Philly going to hardcore shows since the mid-90s and both quit going to them and associated clubs since the early 2000s when a remarkable rise in the level of violence (not just the number of fights, but the intensity of them) became the norm. We (especially I) were no angels ourselves when we were going to shows, but something clicked when we started seeing the shift in the level of violence in fights in this area, not unlike what happens in the video.Unfortunately, this seems to be the norm now for Philly warfare. I dated a girl this past summer who lives 3 blocks from Genos and one summer night while walking to the CVS to buy a toothbrush, I walked past no less than four fights, two of which involved at least a dozen people (it was a weekend night). Philly PD should know this is a hot spot for this kind of bs, especially after high profile and competitive games like this. We've all been there in the stage of life where we just wanted to FSU (no reference to the "gang") and cause trouble. But to have something like this happen after the WC at such an obvious hot spot for conflict is partially on the PPD, but mostly on a few morons from our city. Philly fans get a terrible rap and mostly for media hype, but also for good reason. How many fans of sports teams get stabbed by fans of the same team? How many innocent bystanders get puked on by drunk morons from Cherry Hill (and rightly mopped up by fellow fans)? How many Santas get booed (ok, he really actually deserved it). We all get a bad rap and it's because of things like this, kind of like how Carcillo continues to do stupid sh!t and his punishment is exacerbated by reputation. It's no secret why fans from opposing teams treat our general good moods and acceptance of them as the exception rather than the rule. hf101
@mkscrewynice post.I was in section 416 and a couple of Ranger fans couldn't just sit in their seats and enjoy their victory, instead they needed to stand and mock the Flyer fans during the final few minutes of play.....Several Flyer fans above us took offense.....threw a bunch of paper related items. Security comes in and targets the disruptive Flyer fans. Fortunately, after a bunch of stupid talk, both sides settled down and no one needed to be escorted out. Bertmega
It was me. I was so pissed when I got my tourist, err umm, I mean cheese steak wit instead of witout and I had to take my frustration out on somebody. 1) What true self loving Philadelphian would go to either Geno's or Pat's? I tell you who, an a-hole looking for trouble. Or B some wanna be from the far realms of Berks County (50 miles from the city) Philly-ing it up for his home town crowd. I read the 700 level FB sh!t and you have to be kidding me. This tool probably couldn't name 10 Flyers on the all time list, let alone spell his own name the same way three times. This is why I choose to watch from the comfort of my couch and just beat my couch cushions up.
phlfly
I think it's so bad as look. Around the world young(I mean young people) fan got in fight over just as fan battle. It was in Russia, when fans come from Moscow to St. Petersburg (we would be wait them at railway station, before even game started and then of course to say goodbye at same place, because after the game they would be excort by police back to railway station) or English soccer fans got in fight between each other or other countries fans. But I think what is a bad thing is to be an informer. It's not a job of the Broad street bullies; it's a job of police and Rags fans to complain about. They don't know what is really happened there, I betcha Rags said something unpleasant, then.... We know.

Bertmega
@JackStrawDon't get me wrong I am not trying to be a cheese steak elitist here and I believe Geno's and Pat's are good, but I would NEVER in a million years go there after any Philly sporting event let alone a big event like the WC. In any case, I am not saying what happened was right, but let's be honest with ourselves here. Why in the world would they go to Geno's in their dumb Rangers gear and expect to not be harassed? I doubt these guys were just waiting in line when all the sudden they got blind sided. I am pretty sure they both exchanged some kind words. In any case it is typical that the media makes way more out of it then needs be. Since it is Philadelphia it has to be national news. radoran
Here's the Police-edited video (the original was taken down from YouTube):http://www.philly.com/philly/video/136693928.htmlThis "good old rough housing" consists of at least three, if not more, "Flyers fans" beating on an off-duty police officer and his son. I'm sure the cop was just looking for trouble - you know how they are... You can also see who throws the first punch - the "Flyers fan" wearing #28.You can also see many other fans wearing jerseys from both teams in line. It's ridiculous to say that people can't go stand in line for a cheesesteak (no matter how awful Geno's is) wearing a Rangers jersey without some loser-ass punk exercising his alcohol-fueled testosterone because his team lost.As Sam Wyche once said: "You don't live in Cleveland!"There's also the moron who posted on Facebook that it was him and he was proud to be beating a guy on the sidewalk. They need some good old fashioned jail time. And quick.
phlfly
Ah, now it does make sense why police do this investigation, because one of them was beaten on streets of Philadelphia. If it was some other ordinary guy, nobody even talked about this here. Well, if some young punk can beat a policeman, then last guy should not be in police at all or he was so drunk, so couldn’t even stand for himself. Anyone who does should be ashamed of themselves.

Anyone who does should be ashamed of themselves. He should smart, and don't argue with this punks at all. He was trained for this, how to handle such situation. But I betcha he is drunk and didn't try to stop, but put more fuel, so more likely he got what deserved. I had situations in DC in local bar near Verizon center, I was with my wife, so I just agreed and walked away, even people yelling something to me. I just didn't give them a reason for fight, even I knew if I say something back, they would punched me right the way. You got to be smart sometimes. One time I remember, it was at red light I was crossing the street, and saw car with the Caps flags, so I yelled something, it was not smart, then real big dude came out from the car and asking if I said something, I did realized I'm alone and a bunch Caps fans, so I just keep walking. So sometimes you got to let it go, even you may think you can't.
