flyercanuck
Brendan Shanahan has stepped down from his job as NHL Director of Player Safety and will be hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Word out is that he'll become president of the club. Now that that's over with, can the NHL finally hire someone who isn't biased and has no connection with any team to hand out suspensions?. Is that too much to ask? And NOT Dave Branch.

Dave Branch interviewing in Manhattan this week (e3) Seriously, I don't think it's possible to have a "hockey guy" come in that has "no connections with any team." A guy who could be completely unbiased would be great.
flyercanuck
@radoran How about a "hockey guy" who lives in Bhutan with no TV or internet?
Bertmega
I sure hope the next person to be named the NHL Director of Player Safety is: Chris SImon

B21
@radoran How about a "hockey guy" who lives in Bhutan with no TV or internet? Craig Adams was born in Brunei. Close enough? He could be the "Sultan of Discipline".

Maybe now guys like James Kneel and Nick Kronwall will actually receive proportionate discipline for their actions.
yave1964
Betcha now that Shanahan is with the Leafs he screams to the heavens for Wings suspensions all the time now, lol. Sorry, I could not resist.

Ya, we want another Pen handing out suspensions. That's definately one of the strangest birthplaces for a hockey player. I knew Regher was born in Brazil, and Langway in Taiwan. Who would ever have associated Arizona and hockey? Weird world, man. Weird world...

A hockey player being born in the southern states would have been strange a couple of generations ago...but with hockey expanding down there, players children will be hatched their. As Couturier was. TropicalFruitGirl26
Hmm...Stephane Quintal, eh? I dunno....Quintal-Ban doesn't have the same ring to it as Shana-Ban for suspensions... NHL should REALLY think this through and get someone who goes better with the word "Ban". Nevermind...this was the same organization that came up with "Metropolitan" division, while renaming another one Atlantic, when they had a perfectly good Atlantic in the 1st place... All seriousness though, let's see how Mr. Quintal (Mike Rupp has been Quintalled for 4 games...howz that?), does the job. Shanny did an ok job, but also made some questionable judgements...ahh well, we will see.
Polaris922
@radoranEver heard of Phoenix? they have a hockey team. @flyercanuckAdams would be good. He was no star, just a grinder. Scrapped occasionally, and he's a Harvard grad so he's no dummy. Might actually work. He has a good rep around the league.
