It was a clean cut (which I believe is easier to repair and has a better long term prognosis). He will be out for 3-4 months. His season is over (if there was nay doubt). And if you think about it it only makes sense. How can something outside the skull prevent a collision inside? Exactly. The swooshing of the brain inside is what is damaging, and you can get a concussion without getting a blow to the head.
