Vegas Flyer
Kimmo should learn from his goal last night......shoot the damn puck!!! All he does is keep trying to make the perfect pass....or set up G from the left circle...I know G has ripped a few from there, but c'min Kimmo....SHOOT the damn puck....especially from the center spot where he keeps receiving a great one timer pass from the corners......drives me nuts!!!!!SHOOT THE DAMN PUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
murraycraven
Kimmo?!... Voracek is my pick to get off the PP... turnover machine that plays only on the perimeter.
mojo1917
without being ice level or at least having the end of the rink perspective that Timmonen has, how can you know that he has a shot ? i mean really, if you're at the point on the PP and the puck swings to you the way this team has been passing you have to corale or settle it then shoot, by the time a happens b's window may have closed. just because a guy has the puck and has no one around him doesn't mean he has a shot. Timmonen is the least of this teams problems.

I'm still looking for the Core. Has Foster even played the point yet?
LegionOfDoom
Another thing to look at is someone has to support Timo's shot so that if it gets blocked the other D pairing races back so there is no odd man rush, I think Timo played it somewhat conservative, but he has to shoot the puck more often in a game like Mez does, The more you bomb from the outside the more the other teams D will respect your shot and come out to you; and that's! when you look for the pass or even bank off the boards to a forward down low and a tiny, small, little egg hatches called................................................................................Havoc!
jammer2
@LegionOfDoom Yep, we are not the only ones who know that Kimo is the only one that can shoot the puck from the point with any purpose or accuracy....if I'm the opposing coach, I cheat my defenders towards Kimo, shutting down the shooting/passing lanes and let the other stiffs handle the puck/turn it over. LegionOfDoom
It's time to get unorthodox.....unfortunately we don't have that creativity, or the coaching staff to break free from the Special Teams quagmire. It's apparrent Lavi isn't a specialist coach, but that's what we need to bring in a PK coach and a PP coach and Terry to be a defensive coach, ego's aside. Each coach responsible for their own end...communicating with each other in staff meetings eating Pizza Hut Pizzone's.Have your Pizza pie and eat it too. What's to keep us from that?Staff/contract limitation? canoli
Yep, we are not the only ones who know that Kimo is the only one that can shoot the puck from the point with any purpose or accuracy...sad but so true. Jeez how come Coburn can't develop some accuracy yet over all this time? He is one of my fav players and I CRINGE every time he touches the puck in the O zone, PP or not. I know, I know...some guys got it, some guys don't. But Coburn has everything going for him, size, speed, natural fluid skating...he should be (could be) a helluva PP weapon from the point. At least Mez gives the defenders something to think about when he's got control up top. He *may* very well get one on net....but Coby is a lost cause I'm afraid as far as offense goes.
doom88
Coburn was never the same after his face got smashed.
LegionOfDoom
Maybe Coburn should shut one eye before he takes that slapshot. May be his dimensional vision will improve.
canoli
At this point he should be willing to try anything. I don't care if he has to wear coke-bottle glasses if that's what it takes.
flyerrod
What ever happened to Joey Mullen? Lord knows he had the skills to run a PP, he should be able to teach it to others.....
jammer2
@canoli Coburn is fast, once he takes a few steps and gets momentum going, but his piivots and first steps are slow. His criss cross steps are brutal also, that's why he can't slither over at the point to make a new shooting lane.....and why over half his shots are blocked. He will never, ever be proficient at getting the puck through from the point. He has some good qualities, but what you see is what you get at this point, his deficiencies will never improve IMHO. canoli
damn... ... you had to go and break it down that way... Not having played nearly as much as many of you I forget sometimes just how much basic skating affects everything a player does.I used to think it was strange how a fluid skater like Coburn (in open ice) can be such a clod playing the point on a PP.Thank you for connecting the dots. It's not his shot so much, his shot is fine, probably no less accurate than most D-men around the league...but his lateral movement is so limited that his decision-making on when to shoot is affected. He knows he can't shake a defender with a deke and then fire away...the only other option is pass and if that's covered he pretty much has to shoot the puck. Invariably it hits who's ever in front of him.I know Coburn is not alone: a lot of the bigger D-men have limited mobility especially east-west. And he does compensate for it by (imho) being a solid defensemen. I guess I'll just quit hoping for improvement to his offense...especially in this short season of limited practice time. jammer2
@canoli Yeah, Coburn def has some good qualities. Any team in the league would be happy to have him. You just can't put a square peg in a round hole when it comes to his offense, it will always be limited. His play in his own end makes up for his offensive shortcoming, nice wingspan and a fairly active stick also. Now, if we could ever light a fire under the gentle giant....he will just never have that mean streak we all want out of him, no matter how hard we wish.....lol. LegionOfDoom
It seems like once you reach the top, you quit. Whatever happened to improving your weakness so that at least they are at a baseline level. When Jagr arrived it helped Hartnell wake up to the fact that he needed to improve his skating, and "Hartnell down" was not often seen as much after he worked on his skating. What does it take to look inside and say to yourself, "Damn I suck at this, but if I can just keep on practicing at least I'll be proficient enough at it that it will no longer be a weakness.Complacency, we all go through it, but when do you break through it.It's all easier said than done, that's for sure. Vanflyer
What ever happened to Joey Mullen? Lord knows he had the skills to run a PP, he should be able to teach it to others.....He still there (and is coaching the PP) as Berube is still coaching the PK.
