flyercanuck
It's early (too early) but what the heck, let's start anyway. Schenn has looked like a pylon a couple of times (knew about his skating coming in) But he's also been visible, positively a couple of times. JVR is still Mr. Invisible , albeit in only one game. The trade could benefit both with a new change of scenery. Or it could likely just leave fans still wanting more, just on different teams. fishbulb
Schenn really seems to get caught 'flat-footed' a lot and is forced to take penalties. I'm sure having better foot speed would help out, but I think a lot of it is mental as well. Even Hatcher didn't get caught out of position so much.... ;-p
flyercanuck
He's definatley got very low confidence right now, Not sure if they de-Leafed him when he got in or not.
pilldoc
LOL..when I first read the title I thought JVR vs B. Schenn! We are gonna need to differentiate between Luke and his brother.....just saying.....
TimKerrFan12
Yeah..I noticed Luke seemed pretty slow, I think Brad Marsh could outskate him. lol.
Dynamo 47
It is still early and he is learning a new system. He will be fine once he settles in. He will be a fan favorite once he gets comfortable and starts laying some bodies on the ice.
TedZep
Hey, Luke was the first Flyer to put the puck into net this season!(Too bad it was his own net.)
jammer2
I'm trying to block out the 100's of games I seen him play in Toronto. A fresh new start deserves a fresh new outlook. I wanna wait 10 full games to get a good accurate feel for the kid in a Flyers uniform, with different coach's and his brother on the squad. I also knew about the foot speed coming in, so no big surprise, didn't expect that to increase exponentially over night or anything. It's all about coaching now, and how he reacts to it. jackhole
Not sure if they de-Leafed him when he got in or not.HaHa, no doubt! One would assume its like plucking a chicken? There is likely some good money in it, from teams around the league, for someone who can devise a machine or process which could quickly and efficiently remove the 'Leaf Stank!'I'm OK with what I've seen of him at this early stage. If he focuses on coverage and not the big hit and makes a good outlet pass, I'll be happy with what we gave up.

Vanflyer
big, slow, hard hitting kid the finer points of the position Hatch would be the guy.I agree. Also, I remember one off-season Mcgillis talking about a skating instructor that really helped him develop a bit quicker foot speed (not blazing mind you- but an improvement). Also that foster guy that broke his femur in three places went to a PT specialist in Seattle that taught him how to get all the proper balance out of his legs / back / posture and that has supposedly greatly improved his deficiency in skating since he broke his femur. Somebody needs to give Luke some business cards.

Maybe my brain just isn't with it, but I don't know a lot about some of these guys, particularly on D. It could just be that I haven't really paid attention to hockey in a while (I hear lockout and I don't follow again until its resolved), but I don't know this team. One other thing I'm noticing is that they have too many guys who either haven't or never will blossom yet. I like role players, but is there anyone on this team - other than Giroux - capable of scoring over 60 points? flyercanuck
@fanaticV3.0 Well I'd like to say Hartnell, Simmonds, Briere, Voracek, maybe Schenn Read and Couturier have potential (over 82 games, not this year) to score 60 points. These guys ended up 2nd in the league in scoring last year, so it's not like we have a popgun offence. And none of those guys other than hartnell and briere have peaked yet. I'm more concerned about keeping the puck out of OUR net.

I mean who is really likely to do it. I didn't mean potential or might if he has a career year, I meant who can we count on besides Giroux? Briere and Hartnell are maybes, but they've gotten below that threshhold more often than above it (as Flyers). The rest are totally unproven.Bryz is Bryz and is always going to be a concern. He could be playing well, but we'll never be confident in him. Ever. But if the only concern you're talking about is keeping the puck out of the next, you're off your rocker bro. Our defense is made up of a bunch of nobodies. Our offensive is Giroux and the AHL all stars. I love a good role player, but you can win with one guy scoring70-90 and the rest 40-50. I like role players, but is there anyone on this team - other than Giroux - capable of scoring over 60 points? For the most part, it's the same team as last year. We lost Jagr and Carle, and added Luke Schenn. That's probably the lowest roster turnover since... well, since a long time! But, you're right re: offense. Giroux and Hartnell should be fine to get 60 points (prorated to whatever that is over 48). Briere's return should also balance out the forwards. Brayden Schenn and Voracek are *capable* of 60 points, but so far that's just unrealized potential. Voracek is much more of a passer than goal scorer, so he's gonna need some guys on his line who can put the puck in the net.EDIT: Forgot that we lost JVR too... which goes to show just how forgettable he is. Shows how forgettable he is for sure. They need help everywhere was my point. Hard to single out the goalie when they don't score a single goal of their own.
Mad Dog
So far both JVR and Luke seem to look equally lost.
HansonBros17
Update: James van Riemsdyk scored two goals and added one assist to lead Toronto to a 5-2 victory over the Penguins Wednesday night. Also, Colton Orr and Derek Engelland mixed it up again. Can't wait to see what Mr. Engelland's eye looks like tomorrow:
MayonnaiseOreo
Goddamn that was an amazing fight. Hating both teams or not, I love fights like that. It's really too bad we don't have anyone that can fight like that and not also completely suck at playing hockey at the NHL level.
Polaris922
JVR definitely took advantage of a sloppy lazy outing by the Pens. Not to take away from his efforts, but the Pens looked REALLY bad tonight. As for the fight, from my seats it looked like Engelland got the better of Orr again but not by much. Took a good one to the face, but you could see Orr's head snap back hard two or three times. So hard his lid almost popped off.
