Polaris922
It's 5am.. I found a swedish channel on my computer to watch the game while at work... USA is up 3-0 already but it's a long ways from over... where is everyone? Only hockey we've got to watch around here!
hf101
Great start by USA. Skating and controlling the play
Polaris922
Canada got some life back there for a little bit... energy on the power play... but that 4th goal there looked like they just gave up a little and let them skate by. Maybe counting on Subban too much??
Polaris922
Some bad penalties now though for Canada too.. looks like a few are losing composure. Neither team capitalizing on PP though...

Polaris922
And that's that... Canada with a shorthanded goal in the third to make it look close but a 5-1 final. The USA boys played pretty solid, with a lot of good scoring chances. A lot of Canada's shots seemed to be from the perimeter, though they still had some good scoring chances where Gibson came up big. Even on the shorthanded goal Gibson seemed to think the puck was either in the net already or out of play as he never really tried to get back to the net. Guess we'll wait and see who wins the Russia - Sweden game...
hf101
USA moved the puck well from the start of the game. Housley had a great game plan and USA executed. Gibson had another strong game. Usa's defensemen have to have credit here and Gaudreau and the forwards are a confident bunch to take the puck to the net.Bring on Russia or Sweden. This team has a real chance to win gold.
Podein25
Great game by the Americans. Our puck control/support/management and passing was awful. We got beat on faceoffs and most other battles and Gibson was better. Although you can't blame Subban, I would have pulled him after the 3rd goal to try to change the momentum. The better team won today.Congrats and good luck vs Sweden or Russia.
flyercanuck
Great game by the US. Gibson has been the best goalie of any (not that he had to be in this game). Canada looked like they were at their first practice of the tournament. They couldn't pass, they couldn't handle the puck, they didn't skate. How do you collectively stink like that this far into a tournament? They don't deserve tin with that effort.

jammer2
A well deserved CONGRATS to our American posters and Team USA....they deserved to win. We stunk...in every faucet of the game...just awful. If you can't break out of your own zone efficiently, everything else suffers. USA outworked us, won the puck battles, they 100% deserve to be in the finals.

jammer2
@Podein25 What a great tourny Gaudreau has had! Don't know if his game will translate to the NHL, but Calgary has to be licking their collective chops hoping for an infusion of goals from a youngster at some point. After being benched, thought Grimaldi had a nice game against Canada. Those little smurf forwards for the USA kept skating and intercepted a lot of passes, and were overall quite disruptive. Podein25
@jammer2Hard to say. He's tiny. But so is Marty Saint Luis

flyercanuck
@radoran Where's your goalie (you know, THE reason the US is still playing) developing?
flyercanuck
@Podein25 St. Louis has about 30 lbs on Gaudreau.
radoran
@radoranWhere's your goalie (you know, THE reason the US is still playing) developing?I thought at least four of the reasons had to do with Wisconsin Badger Jake McCabe (twice), Boston College's John Gaudreau, Harvard(!?)'s Jim Vesey chasing Belleville's Subban and then Gaudreau racking up another on Binnington (who plays for the AWESOMELY named Owen Sound Attack which I believe was a finishing move of a member of Alpha Flight - but I digest)In fact, seems like there's a whole roster of Junior guys hoping they can come home with the copper. Er, Bronze.Good luck with that.

Then again, maybe he couldn't.
Vanflyer
but that 4th goal there looked like they just gave up a little and let them skate by.How could the USA team "skate by" a STACKED Canadian team??
Vanflyer
But so is Marty Saint LuisRoo is 3 inches taller than St Louis, but lighter. Small guys can make it. It mostly has to do with their leg strength conditioning. Briere comes to mind as well. Kariya, adnaseum. Being 6'3 and 220 when I played, hated the smaller guys. So fast- yet, when you catch them, you catch them good.
Vanflyer
St. Louis has about 30 lbs on Gaudreau......and 12 years of maturity. As and aside, did you ever see the stick Louis plays with? It is taller than he is.
