NHL free agency/trades not like other sports

I was over at my brother's house the other night to watch the game. He's really down on the flyers and on hockey in general. I'm trying to tell him that it's because the team has been bad for so long but it's the start of something exciting coming soon. He's not buying it.

Then I started thinking of the other teams in town and how exciting they are. The phillies have schwarber, Turner, harper, castillanos who weren't drafted by the phillies. The eagles have AJ Brown and Barkley who weren't drafted by the eagles. The sixers had butler then Harden and now Paul George who weren't drafted by the sixers. These are all SUPERstars...not just allstars that were let go by their former teams to go to another team.

When is the last time the flyers got a superstar in a blockbuster trade or free agent signing? Then I started thinking that NHL teams rarely move a superstar in his prime. Johnny G was the exception but it rarely happens. Why? Baseball doesn't have a cap but the other three sports do, and yet players are moving around all the time. Wouldn't it be nice if the flyers had a shot at McDavid? They never will though unless he's washed up.
