Matt Ellison played a whooping 7 games for the Flyers and was so bad he had to go over seas if he wanted to continue to play hockey. #winning I'm telling you, BC liked Sharpe and did him a solid. I wouldn't be surprised if it was his way of sticking up Hitch's fat, pimply butthole, since he wouldn't play him more

Clarke took care of a good kid instead of putting the franchise first. Im sure it benefited him personally somehow. This is my problem with this move. Is Patrick Sharpe a worthy candidate for the job, or did the Flyers just do it again? And is this a legit position? .As posted in an article: New general manger Daniel Briere and new president of hockey operations Keith Jones are righting one of the biggest mistakes ever made by this organization. On Tuesday, Sharp, now 41, came back to Philly. He has been hired as a Special Advisor to Hockey Operations. Why does the team need this position filled? Is it even needed at all? I could see if he had been doing something at the management level that was so valuable they had to snag him before some other team did. But he was broadcasting. This smacks of them just taking care of Sharpe....again.

Isn't hiring ex-Flyers that aren't really that qualified for the position the old outdated way of thinking? Cause I'm pretty sure it is. No, I don't have a problem with hiring guys who care about the franchise and what it means to be a Flyer (or should mean). Never had a problem with that. Out dated thinking is something else.

I mean I guess he’s more of an ex-Hawk than an ex-Flyer but still… But glass half full is fine by me let’s see what happens. Maybe they all get along and bond over the fact that none of them have been in this situation before…just pray they don’t turn to the Ancient Ones for advice. Ya, he's a Blackhawk not a Flyer but I don't care about that. I'm just saying I prefer to consider it more new ways of thinking than inexperience. You can go optimist or pessimist on that all you want but I'm going optimist until proven wrong. Brier's first trade was a good one. That's all the actual stuff we have to go on for now.

So what exactly makes him know what it "means" to be a Flyer? You need to be careful with that kool-aid, it can have long term effects More than likely Sharpes buddy KJ floated him a job that will pay him serious bank and he jumped on it. After all, that's what KJ did

After all, that's what KJ did Yeah you have to wonder. It may all be perfectly honorable and aboveboard but hiring guys with zero experience isn't a good look. Benefit of the doubt in Sharp's case, maybe managerial experience isn't really necessary for an "Advisor." Still, it's starting to look like these new guys are just recreating the "Good Old Boys Club," now with younger faces. 1

Looking at another perspective ... Jones and Briere never played together either ...... In addition Jones career ended in 2000-01 season where he only played 8 games that season. Sharp was only drafted in Spring of 2001 and did not play his 1st game with the Flyers until 03-04 season. I doubt the two interacted that much especially when Sharp was traded to Chicago in 2005. Sure maybe they crossed paths a few times on the TV side of things but hardly the "Good Old Boys Club" as some have suggested. EDIT: I get the concern some have due to the lack of experience they may have being in the FO, which is a valid concern, but that is my only concern. In my opinion it's impossible to know for sure if he'll do well in the front office based on his announcer/ player skills. But I will say, from what I have read, he seems very intelligent and definitely knows hockey. Fairly certain I read he was on the Hawks advisory panel for the new GM search with Hossa and Edzo. Also, he was an advisor at University of Vermont for a year (his Alma mater). Like Briere and Jonesy, yes, technically, Sharp is a former Flyer. He's also greatly associated elsewhere (Jonesy is more renowned as a Capital, Briere a Sabre). The changing of the front-office is another step closer to being something brand new. That he's going into player development, it's needed as the Flyers haven't produced credible "finds" in a long time (maybe Lindblom, but then cancer). Time will tell but I will be optimistic for now. CoachX
So, I talked to a close friend of mine who has long term contacts in the Blackhawks organization, who are close to Sharpe. My friend was told that KJ wanted to bring PS on board right away. Flyer front office had him tap the brakes and wait until the smoke cleared. They were worried about the optics of the ex-flyer connection. Apparently KJ and PS got close through the broadcasting thing I have no.problem really, with hiring one of your boys. I get it. And maybe KJ and PS do a good job. It's the similarity to the past way the Flyers have conducted business that worries me

The proof will be in the results.
SKiFit
...and now another ex-Flyer joins the fold. From the Philadelphia Inquirer today: Two days after the Flyers added former Flyer Patrick Sharp as a special advisor to hockey operations, they announced John LeClair, another former Flyer, is joining the new front office in the same capacity.
