Howie58
Greetings: The Oilers are favored (-185) with a 65% win probability. They've averaged 4.8 goals a game over the last 10: https://sportsbookwire.usatoday.com/article/edmonton-oilers-vs-philadelphia-flyers-odds-tips-and-betting-trends/ Their offense and PP are atop the league. https://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/edm-vs-phi/2023/02/09/2022020822 It's been four years since we've beaten them at Wells Fargo: http://flyershistory.com/cgi-bin/opponent.cgi?Edmonton_Oilers#:~:text=Flyers History - History Versus Edmonton Oilers History,- 2 T (159 GF - 114 GA) Are we due? GrittyForever
Their offense and PP is very good, their defense is not. Far from unbeatable but they have to skate hard all game and shut their PP down (at least a little).
Howie58
Good Morning, I agree with Gritty. This is going to take stand-on-head goaltending plus a team effort. A PP goal might help.
OccamsRazor
I'm going to try and sit down and watch a little tonight. I hope i can enjoy it. Can't wait till Sunday. Fly Eagles Fly!
OccamsRazor
I guess this is the way the young generation treats competition instead of trying to get better they just quit, transfer because they don't like that is hard to make the team - they don't like to be a backup it's either start or i'm out... ...good luck Linus...we barely got to know ye. OccamsRazor
I hope there are scouts there ready to take some of these players soon. https://ok.ru/videoembed/4765593378451 This game link works for me. I mean... Patrick Roy did the same thing at the Canada Cup in 1991: demanded to be named the starter or he wouldn't show up. Canada went with Bill Ranford, who went on to be named tournament MVP. OccamsRazor
Just now, JR Ewing said: I mean... But it is rampant in sports now. Not saying there were never any cry babies ever before just kids theses days just don't want to earn anything in sports today. We are in trouble. The world gets softer by the day.
OccamsRazor
JVR with the game winner. Only tuned in for the shootout. So i see Hayes scored the only goal in regulation. Good to see both boosting their trade value. Only 6 points outside the wild card spot Chuck.
wallywonder
Nice win, shoot out no less, back to 500,loved the under 6.5 goals, flyers play hard most nights.
OccamsRazor
What i don't understand is WTF is Sanheim not on the power play?? 6 million for just 5 on 5 play. SMFH. Should have traded this kid. I waited all my life for Sanheim big ol ass just to make a play like York does. You don't have to blow someone up being physical but you can be hard to play against coming into your zone. This is just what i'm talking about Sanheim is 6-3 and York is only 5-11 180 at best. Put Travis watching film of him.

Howie58
Well, if there was a better power play, OT heroics might not be needed. But a win is a win. They played a disciplined game and Hart was excellent. Yes, JVR, Hayes, and Seeler added trade value.
JR Ewing
-Flyers played well. -Stuart Skinner got the Oilers one more point than they deserved. -Draisaitl and McDavid look hung over from the All-Star break -I saw Provorov good tonight.
GrittyForever
This team is so up and down. Can't count how many times it's bad game, Torts yells at them, good game......(repeat? ) It's not the most exciting hockey, but if they play like this every night they'd actually be good.
Howie58
There's no surplus of talent. This is the team effort needed for this squad to compete, particularly against a better squad. Edited February 10, 2023 by Howie58

mojo1917
First of all McDavid and Draisatl in overtime are ridiculous. That play towards the end where 97 takes the puck out of the offensive zone and immediately turns it into a near breakaway off a give and go with Leon... speed kills, man, ****** wow. There are some things I've come to like about this year's Flyers team. Efforts like last night's vs Edmonton have been scarce when there were older and more talented players on the team. I like the penalty kill, the philosophy of it, it's aggressiveness- turning plays up ice and it's unpredictability. Last night zero for zero, but that part of the special teams play has been improved. WTF with Morgan Frost finding himself? He has been legitimately not terrible in 2023. Last night he played well vs everyone he was matched against. If he continues to be physically involved with the game he could wind up being pretty good. When he's not moving and checking he's invisible. He had a nice game last night. Cam York looks like he could be a legit top 4- maybe top pair player. He's calm, he sees the ice well. He's a nice player, he and Provorov have been a good pairing, doesn't seem like Ivan is carrying him either. It really looks like there is quality depth that plays hard on this team. If the salary cap can be managed and some higher end talent is found or recruited, this team could be pretty good in a season or two.

They didn't win last night but that's why these current OT rules and shoot outs favor teams with superstars on them over work hard team effort types. Teams like Edmonton pick up a lot of extra points that way BUT that's also part of why they often get tossed from the playoffs early. Without the OT pt. bumps some of those teams wouldn't even make the playoffs.

Unfortunately for Edmonton they've never been able to give McDavid and Draisaitl enough depth for them to compete with the big boys. Unfortunately for the Flyers they can't figure out how to draft a superstar. Or build a playoff team for that matter.

When two guys make up 25% of your cap, you can't also afford to have another $4M tied up in buyouts and retained salary like they do. Plus the dropoff in talent from the $5+M guys to the rest of the team is huge. That's the kind of thing that gets exploited in the playoffs.

Part of that is in a cap era when you have to back the truck up and dump all the cash at a few individuals there's nothing left for the rest of the team. Teams that draft well and are filled with rookie contracts have a short window and then they can run into the same problem. Only a few teams get home town discounts like Boston has but that's why they're good. Tampa gets some of that too. and then there's a Fletcher team that simply wastes all it's money on garbage.
