After losing by 4, at home, to Chicago…then yes you make a fair point there! 😝

Caps and Flyers square off the last game of the year.

I wonder if it will end up winner makes the playoffs and loser goes home?

Either way should be an interesting race to the end.

With Ivan Fedotov coming into the fold I do feel a little bit better about the goaltending situation now.

We'll see soon...

This is shaping up just like I figured...

Nice to see new blood so to speak

Yeah despite all the older guys, playoff experience for the youngsters (even if only one round against the Rangers) will be invaluable for McMichael, Lapierre, Protas, Alexeyev, Fehervary, Sandin, Iorio…and even the guys a bit older like Milano, Aube-Kubel, Malenstyn, and I’ll throw in Dylan Strome, too, who must come up large if we hope earn a first round upset.

after the nice pre-game ceremony the Capitals gave TJ Oshie before defeating road-weary Winnipeg

During last March’s ceremony, many felt it likely what was revealed yesterday as camp opened:

TJ Oshie will likely not play again

His back will not sufficiently heal.  He’ll join Backstrom in the LTIR clubhouse for the final year of his contract.

That leaves three remaining from the 2018 Miracle Cup: Ovi, Wilson, Carlson

The WaPo article also reported that TJ spent extra time after the game 4 playoff loss last spring saluting the fans, remaining on-ice longer than most of the Capitals.  He felt it might well be his swan song, then.

From Yave’s “Blues Review 2024” in May:

It seems like years ago but Jakub Vrana last year blew his probable last chance in the NHL and was a huge bust.

The 2024-25 Capitals are giving him a tryout chance.  WaPo says Vrana came to camp in good shape.

Will we still have 4 players from the 2018 Cup Miracle? 🤷‍♂️

So last night, the Caps tried out a line with their heaviest wingers Tom Wilson (220 lbs) and Pierre-Luc Dubois (225 lbs) aside their lightest center Connor McMichael (180 lbs).

We have the Barbell Line if this sticks past pre-season.

Apparently yes.  Coach Carbery confirms that Vrana will be on the opening night roster:

https://russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2024/10/07/jakub-vrana-expected-to-sign-with-the-capitals-its-really-good-news/

Not Miro, not new whiz kid Cristall, but Jakub Vrana.

Caps and Ducks the last two to play, with openers not until Saturday.

Now if my TV provider can only get greedy Ted Leonsis to re-establish his new network at a reasonable charge.  (Of course, kept the fee the same as the older network the first year.  Second year, attempt to move the team, and charge TV providers more.  Eff him, I’ll watch whatever Caps games I can get on TNT or ESPN+ then.  Radio play by play with John Walton and Ken Sabourin is nice, too.)

The interviewer, Al Koken, became the Capitals TV analyst (paired with PxP man Mike Fornes) in either ‘84 or ‘85, lasting maybe 8 years or so.

It remains somewhat unique for a TV hockey analyst to not have ever played hockey at any serious level.

For a very long time now, Koken has been the on-ice reporter.  I think he did that before it became popular.
