Math Posted November 13, 2021 Share Posted November 13, 2021 I might sneak here from time to time to make some nonsense statements and uninteresting comments I don't want to put too much pressure here, but like I mentioned in another game thread, the Stars are actually way worse than their current record suggest. The offense is anemic, the defense has holes everywhere, the goaltending is barely average (and Holtby is apparently injured), the team is awfully coached and terribly prepared. Stars' goal-for avg at even-strength is 1.34, which makes a current all-time league record since the 2013-2014 Sabres (1.43). Unofficially, it's even worse than the 1930-1931 Philadelphia Quakers. The Stars are the only team in the league with no regulation wins. Even Arizona managed to get one. In their OT/SO wins, the Stars had a .942 SV%, which means a win is obtained by having exceptional goaltending. And also... Oh screw that, you know what I mean If Vigneault studied a bit the Stars, the gameplan is fairly simple. Put a little pressure on them (one guy on the forecheck is way enough), close the neutral zone, stay out of the box, win battles along the boards (pretty easy) and once the first Flyers goal is scored, just manage the lead, turtle, and wait until the end of the game to get your two points. There's good puck movement but minimal skating. To create lanes and get some open looks you have to skate. Playing catch around the umbrella won't get it done.
