    True.

Well said.  I get squeemish.  😮

    Yes but... :)

The NHL isn't about setting players up for life financially. Never has been. The NHL is a place of employment for players to earn a living. Nowhere does it say that the league owes the players a lifetime of luxury just for making it into the league... nor should a player be granted a lifetime of luxury just for playing well a few seasons and landing their first big contract. It should be no different than any other job. You get paid while you're there and if terminated, that's it. You find another job (or career). The money should stop the moment the player's production stops.

Injuries happen. If I worked as a roofer and fell off a roof, that might be the end of my working career. Worker's comp. would be my life going forward.

If a player loses out on an NHL career due to injuries, that's too bad. That's part of the risk. Have a backup plan.

Here is how NHL players perform versus how they currently get paid:

I agree with what you saying about nobody owes anyone anything, least of all owners don't owe players a lifetime deal nor do players want to be paid less than the maximum they can get.

We can compare players to roofers, but we all know that roofers are in less demand than players, so players will be able to command a higher price based on what it will cost to get another player of similar value.

Personally, I rather just abolish all the salary cap rules etc, and let them all make up whatever contact they like - if you want to play for free then good for you, if you want to bankrupt your team then good for you too.

There are multiple injuries people don't heal from in a year.

    Concussions say hello.

Let's not even talk about broken legs or reversed joints

Players have ONE SHOT for their financial stability.

Owners have to be financially stable before they even own a team.

Which one do you give the most protections to?

It's not a shock that the players' union takes the players' side.

I say don't protect any, let the free market reign and let teams keep paying for dumb contacts.

If players can get set for life, good for them.

If owners can get players for under market value, good for them.

Makes more sense than inventing all these rules that lawyers find loopholes around anyways.

One of the best DCorps in NHL. They'll be in a a lot of 1-0 and 2-1 physical games. Will not be a soft stopover between western Canada and California.

Yeah, Edmonton exposing Larson didn't make sense either - but Seattle benefited from that.

Other Seattle picks I like are Olesiack and Gourde and Eberle and Donskoi too.

They should taken Domi and Holtby though.

Do you know why that is?  Fans like dynasties. Fans like mismatches. Nothing is more boring (to the majority of fans) than parity.

If all 32 teams are the same then nobody cares about anyone. If there is some "lobsided-ness" to the league, then you're excited when a "doormat" team comes to town so your team can pulverize them. You're also equally excited to see the "dynasty" team so that you see how your team stacks up against them.  :)

Parity robs the league of flavour and character. No matter how colorful the uniforms are, the on-ice product is just shades of grey.

10-15 years is absurd. The building phase of a typical expansion club under the old system is around 7 years to go from doormat to contender.  Since every other team has to do it when they rebuild, I don't see what the problem is. The Leafs had to go from doormat to contender recently. It didn't happen overnight. They drafted and developed. Imagine if the Leafs could have said "you know, let's skip the rebuild and just pick players from every team". Much faster that way.

It's hard to know where any team stands when every team is the same. You can't identify good until you've seen crap. That's the trouble in the NHL today. Everyone is the same. There are no good teams and there are no bad teams. Tampa is back-to-back champs, but on a scale of 1-10, they're maybe a 6/10 team compared to historical champion franchises. They would get swept by any champion from the 70's, 80's, 90's, early 2000's, because they have no depth. You can't "hoard" talent in the NHL today  over multiple lines and that means weak/weakened champions.

I like seeing two mega-powered teams collide in the final.  I don't like when it's a matchup of two teams where anyone else could have been substituted in and the result would have been the same.  :(

If they are, would you acknowledge that the new system needs changing?  😐

I blame the salary cap for the parity and lack of true 3-peat dynasties.

Personally, I hate the salary cap, let teams go broke if they can't control their own spending - why do grown men need others to control their spending for them?

Well, the Kraken have their "official" roster now.

Lots of D-men in there....likely means some of those will be flipped for draft choices or younger forwards.

Mark Giordano would make an excellent veteran defenseman for a contender.
Wouldn't surprise me if Yanni Gourde was flipped back East for a younger player either...

    NOOOOOOOOOOOO! GIOOOOOOOO😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫

Not sure how the so-called "hockey gods" are to curse the Lightning for damaging the Cup, when, in fact, LOTS of crazy things have happened to the Stanley Cup (or its facsimiles), throughout the years, and some, I am pretty sure, the public DOESN'T know about!

Of course, if we see some teams like the Ottawa Senators, Vancouver Canucks, and Columbus Blue Jackets trade Stanley Cups over the course of next 3 or 4 years, then maybe there IS a curse, seeing as how those teams have never touched Lord Stanley and therefore, have yet the opportunity to 'harm' the Cup themselves

As for "cap circumvention", old hat now, the tears should have been dried by now, NO rules were broken, yadda, yadda.... those people need to find something else to whine over.
Any GM, ANY GM, given the same circumstances, would have done the same as the Lightning.....provided they actually had the depth to withstand LTIR to a star player or two and still get into the post season in comfortable fashion.
But of course, that kind of depth simply isn't an every day thing...hence the whining.

But, back to the Cup, yea, some google searching reveals some weird things the Stanley Cup has been subjected to.
I don't believe the Bolts will be the victim of any curse.

If anything, the Bolts will be victims of their own success as they will lose valuable players and will need to reconstruct and retool parts of the team in order to stay on top.

Yeah they're been lots damage before and lots the public don't know about.

Maybe the curse starts with as you said, them being the victims of their own success? Losing players definitely lowers their chances to win it again.

  7. Gio is gone to Seattle, some might be happy, but for me he is well worth keeping - Seattle wouldn't have taken him if he wasn't...

I for one didn't agree with not protecting him, I don't care what anyone says, Gio has done alot for our team and our city - I'm sad he's leaving☹️

I'd easily bring back that Ducks logo, but with their current colors. The webbed D might be the dumbest logo currently in the league. Something like this...

Totally agree, the original Mighty Ducks logo is one of the best and most original, also totally agree that the webbed D is one of the all time worst.

And how about these should Quebec ever get another NHL team?

These were designed circa 2013, but I think they are pretty nice.

Yeah I wish Quebec could get a team again, but for now I really like Colorado using Quebec designs.

    And these are good too

  10. It's now end of the 2021 year and even though Tkachuk didn't have to he still did fight kassian and the whole feud seems to be over.

I think kassian is a coward not Tkachuk, kassian only picks on guys smaller than him, look at how kassian refused to even respond when Rinaldo challenged him from the Calgary bench.

Tkachuk doesn't have to fight everyone he gives dirty hits to, fighting is optional in hockey, but being hit with body checks isn't optional - like Tkachuk said, if you don't like getting hit stay off the tracks.

Personally, I don't think any of the hits were illegal, and the refs didn't call penalties nor did the league issues suspensions to Tkachuk - whereas kassian should obviously be suspended for fighting someone who refused to fight, in hockey as in real life anyone that keeps punching someone who doesn't fight back is a bully.

Instead I'm disappointed that more of Calgary players didn't fight kassian for Tkachuk - teammates are supposed to stick up for their teammates but Calgary failed to do that for Tkachuk.

the circumstances of the goal vs the Preds was more difficult. The game was on the line and he pulled that move. The first one still gets my vote based on it's "clutchness"

Totally agree, the speed of the entire play is what makes it more amazing.

  12. I hope we keep them both, under Sutter the whole team playing better consistently and getting better with each game - Calgary will be better for sure next year and has to keep players to keep going with Sutter system.

  13. Yeah, I liked 1000ch since he was in Boston and won cup in Vancouver! Hated that Edmonton got him, then happy that we traded neal and got 1000ch!

Hope we can keep him for next year, and keep tougher players too like Rinaldo and Ritchie etc. I wish they'd out Rinaldo in line up more often too.
