I imagine the Flyers had been wanting to do this for a while for Hart, but the ridiculous schedule just didn't permit it, especially accounting for the fact that Lyon had barely played in the last calendar year & Elliott isn't an every-night workhorse at his age. Now, it does.

I'll pat myself on the shoulder for saying early on that I had concerns about our goalie depth entering into the season.  I was thinking about injury, but it's the same issue.  Lyon may not be major-league, though his numbers aren't bad.  I'd hope the GM has a competent spot-starter in mind, particularly if your backup is 35.

  2. Rad is right.  Coaching matters.  I see that with my backyard Panthers, who are now melding into a top-tier squad.  That also reflects Tallon's vision with top picks--and some really shrewd pickups of depth players who have grit.  Organizational culture matters too.  Something must be really amiss in Buffalo.  And this is of long standing:

I feel for the fans.  That's a devoted base that deserves better.  You have to wonder if top managerial talent stays away because of the reputation?

o be clear Howie, I'm not saying all of this is exactly what you're saying... Your comment is a jumping off point and I like bridges :5a6425fa25331_VikingSkoool:

    Sir Rad:

I agree 100% that the inconsistency we've seen forever is crap.  We will have to look at Patrick and Morin at season's end to see what's up.  I think some might argue (Pittsburgh Gazette had a piece) that Morin was a waste.  Patrick has his own issues.  That said, if they contribute more than expected, CF may have more to ponder.

I am glad to be a bridge builder!

  4. Hello:

I got back from errands and visits for the third period.  For once, my timing was good.  The team showed some pizzazz and determination.  Watching the team mob Morin after the score made you think it was overtime winner in the 7th game of the Stanley Cup.  I felt great for him.  Let's hope this is the start of an upward trajectory for him and the team.

My only "problem" with this game is that it makes CF's life more complicated.  He has to consider how much patience to show for people like Morin, Patrick, and Aube-Kubel. I also wonder if Ghost and Morin become an interesting third pair, though I agree with Occ that Ghost is expensive for a 3rd pairing.

I have to wonder if Braun becomes "expendable" for trade to a team seeking D help?  If he fetches a pick, fine.  His contract ends next year--the acquiring team has an affordable hit or a potential Kraken.  Morin is a more mobile, cheaper version for the time being.

Hagg and Gus--wonder how much playing time either will see in coming weeks.  Gus disappears.  Hagg has another year.  Maybe he's another pickup for someone who wants D depth and a Kraken feeder.

  5. I am having an internal debate over watching. And if I watch, is it to see a big loss that makes it clear the team needs break-up? I agree with some of the journalists that CF is not in a good spot. But at this point, getting picks for Elliott,  Raffl, Ghost, or whomever makes sense. Some say Laughton as well. Fine.  I wouldn't struggle to make the playoffs.

  6. Greetings:

The Rangers are installed as favorites:

It looks like Elliott versus Shesterkin.

Watching the team reminds me of the early years when all the expansion clubs played in the Western Conference to allow for at least one of them to get to a Stanley Cup series.  We were typically eaten alive by the Original Six and a close game was a moral victory. Watching the team these days brings back those memories.  It isn't pleasant.
