  1. Greetings:

We are the better team looking at numbers, but recent experience back-to-back and on Saturday doesn't bode well for the O&B:

How is the team going to play after the tough game yesterday?  We'll see.

It looks like Ellis and Hayes in the lineup, with Jones in goal:

t's funny, maybe it doesn't matter on that line.  They get "energy" but little else.  Maybe Brown and Mac aren't value-added?  NAK is hit or miss.  I wonder if Laughton gets a "demotion" to juice things up.  I suspect that after Hayes returns, that's a possibility.

Well, as noted on another thread, NAK is waived.  I doubt he gets picked up.  So, Brown and Mac are in, I guess Thompson.  Will Mr. Hayes reappear today or tomorrow?

  3. Greetings:

We are underdogs, with a predicted score of 4-2.  It looks like Andersen versus Jones in goal:

Our offense is nearing the bottom third league-wide. We will see Bressard center Oskar Lindblom and Cam Atkinson on the second line.  When Justin Braun is outscoring a chunk of your forwards, something isn't working, so juggling is in order.

    Here is lineup:

    Lines and pairings: Giroux-Couturier-Konecny Lindblom-Brassard-Atkinson Farabee-Laughton-JvR Provorov-Braun Sanheim-Ristolainen Yandle-Seeler NAK-Ellis

  4. Greetings:

Odds are in our favor by a smidgeon.

It looks like Jack Campbell and Carter Hart between the pipes.

Take a gander at this injury list:

Player (Position) Status   Ats*Current O/U* Notes
    Ryan Ellis (D) Out Indefinitely Lower Body - 22 / 10 / 21 6-2 2-6 +
    Zack MacEwen (C) Ques Wed Personal - 17 / 10 / 21 - - +
    Patrick Brown (C) Out Indefinitely Illness - 14 / 10 / 21 - - +
    Ryan Ellis (D) Prob Fri Lower Body - 12 / 10 / 21 - - +
    Rasmus Ristolainen (D) Ques Wed Upper Body - 12 / 10 / 21 - - +
    Ryan Fitzgerald (C) Out Indefinitely Lower Body - 12 / 10 / 21 - - +
    Egor Zamula (D) Ques Fri Groin - 30 / 09 / 21 - - +
    Tanner Laczynski (C) Out For Season Hip - 29 / 09 / 21 - - +
    Kevin Hayes (C) Prob Nov 10 Abdominal - 21 / 09 / 21 - - +
    Samuel Morin (D) Late Nov Knee - 21 / 09 / 21

Ellis as indefinite?  Not good.  Risto is questionable.  Morin potential return is interesting--Does he become a possible 7th or is he a forgotten man?

This should be a good match.

  5. Greetings:

The computer wonks model us as a hefty underdog:

On paper, our two goalies have better save percentages.  The two captains are producing at a great clip:

I assume our lineup will be similar to the Pitt game.  AV has to wonder about scoring beyond a handful of players.

hate to say it but you are not going to win cup if you dont hit on players aka hextall's picks. i think this team competing for a cup is going to depend if fletcher's picks are major hits.

Sadly, there is truth to what you say.  We need some dynamic scorers, not more muckers.

I graduated high school in 1975, right around the time of the Memorial Auditorium Fog Final.  I wonder about living to see another Cup.

  7. Jarry was very good tonight...a wee bit better than Carter, who was no slouch.  I wish our power play had more juice.  Taryn and Hartnell commented on the quantity versus quality of our shots.  Some truth to that. Overall, glad we got the point.  On the other hand, we need Hayes back and have to worry about Ivan and Oskar not contributing more offense.

Howbbout some love for Carter Hart?!?

    Ya know.... Shutout and all?!

Only reason that game was 0-0 going into the 3rd. Yotes had PLENTY of chances....especially early on.

    Crosby has the Cov....out Thur

Well, let's hope they don't lay off the pedal. BTW, it was a goalie clinic. They were both darn good.

  10. Different games have different character.  This was a goaltending clinic.  I  took a walk during period 2--didn't miss any action.  Our score showed some good skill.  The PP has good movement but no killer instinct.  NAK actually looked pretty good, as did MacEwen. Oskar looks good. I think it's a matter of time but the timing is there.  He was robbed in the first.

We take the two points and get ready for war against Crosby.

We also have no chemistry on the third line at all,  maybe Hayes can get Lindblom and JVR going , if not, then hopefully after 40 games or so, Frost will be ready and give us some skill on the third line. Other than Coots our centers are mediocre at best. Brassard is a fourth liner and Laughton is best suited for fourth line left wing. When we get Allison and Hayes back ,we should move Giroux to second line center and Allison should be the off wing sniper on the first line, Hayes should center the third line and Brassard should move to the fourth line and replace Thompson. We need to spread out the offense. Our centers 2-4 are an embarrassment.

    Dear RJ:

I agree with your assessment.  The strange thing, noted in the game and elsewhere, is the fact that Laughton's line is one of the three best in possession to date.  I never thought of JVR as a possession dude, but that is what's happening.  That said, I agree that Hayes' return will allow for juggling and yes, some more distributed scoring.  I hope AV is right about Oskar--he is getting sea legs back.  The other Q is whether JVR is becoming an overpriced powerplay dude with even less juice 5 on five?  That's almost too much to contemplate.

  12. Some Thoughts:

    1)  Not Hart's loss

    2) Too many penalties, including one in the offensive zone that drove AV crazy (see post-game on YouTube)

    3) We need a fourth line that can show at least some offensive credibility.  We can't rely on the top two for everything.

I think we were out of gas by the third, and Markstrom owns us.  But we've got to cut the dumb penalties.

  13. Greetings:

The Flyers are underdogs against the Flames and have lost 5 of the last 6 at the Saddledome:

    https://statsalt.com/games/nhl/10-30-2021/philadelphia-flyers-vs-calgary-flames-prediction-4306/

It looks like Hart versus Markstrom in goal.

As for each team’s current No. 1 goaltender: Calgary’s Jacob Markstrom is 3-3-0 in seven games against the Flyers with a 1.75 goals-against average and .944 save percentage. Philadelphia’s Carter Hart has faced the Flames twice and is 0-0-2 with a 2.36 GAA and .915 SV.

    It should be interesting.  LGF!

  14. Greetings:

The bookies are split on this one.  The odds are slightly in favor of Vancouver, but the computer predicts a close Flyers win:

    https://news.sportsinteraction.com/nhl/story/flyers-vs-canucks-odds-prediction-102821-146894

It is Jones versus Demko; Ellis is apparently a no-go.  Physically and mentally, last night had to be a drag.

On another note, Oskar Lindblom has one point so far.  JVR has two.  We can't depend on Cam forever.
