I normally wouldn't post an Inquirer piece from Sam Carchidi given his "polarizing" status, but it appears he has taken a lead from this board:

The current losing streak raises some painful questions about our players, coaches, and management.  On face, we had a pre-Covid bright spot but may be slipping into an abyss.  Coming from an "insider" who is part of almost every post-game presser with AV, there's some candor and courage I might not expect.

Sadly, I think part of the problems is limited reinforcements from the A.  Lehigh Valley is in the cellar.  As AV has noted in his pressers, the team is depleted systems-wide.  Frost may be the one top-six prospect; Willman and Bunnaman are what they are.  We are so cap constrained they "loaned" back to the LV--I assume that is a cap move.

So, as noted by some others, we are probably facing a lot of dung until our walking wounded reappear.

For the time being, goaltending is sound. That is a plus. Beyond that, it's up for grabs, rebuild, whatever. JJ and Jones sized it up last night: they play with more urgency shorthanded than on the PP or even strength.

MacEwen has character.  He may not contribute much scoring but the dude tries.  

Injuries aren't insignificant, but the lack of compete and dumb turnovers aren't inspiring.  I don't know if this is coaching (I can't see why Therrien is still around) or limited talent?  JVR and Oskar aren't earning their keep.  Provo is worrying me.  Risto may be playing his way out of Philly at the year's end.   

JJ and Keith Jones were saying it's the power play. In part, I'd say that's true. But the defense and turnovers are falling into the LeBrea Tar Pits. Yucch.

This is a new bad phase: Kill yourself with unforced turnovers. Pathetic.

I am trying to stay awake, but it's tough. We can't generate coherent offense. Taryn and Hartnell called it between periods. There's no flow. 

I stand corrected. Jones in goal. No bounceback chance for Hart. 

Reason XX:

Gritty is a distraction.  He is fun and "nice."  That puts lipstick on the pig.  It resonates with kids.  That allows management to forget about the bottom line--winning.  

I say this half seriously, and half tongue-in-cheek.

Odds put the Flyers as mild favorites (bit of a surprise).  It looks like Hart versus Blackwood in net.

These teams have virtually identical records.  We've called up Max Willman, presumably to play for Nate Thompson, who has a shoulder separation.  The franchise is depleted at the A as well as the parent, with an "evaluation" coming.  About the only positive is Sam Morin skating:

Sadly, I understand you. As I've said here too many times, I was a senior at Vineland High when we took the '75 Cup. After a promising start, we are sinking.

You frame things well.  It is painful to watch.  As I've said so often here, I hope to live long enough to see another Cup.  We were porous on defense and largely impotent on offense, though we scored more than two.  It is depressing.  

AV is not the fault but they feel he's a convenient scapegoat. The Carolina team has been well-crafted. I am not sure the O and B can say the same. 

First time we've lost five in a row with AV. Not good. 

This game may jolt Fletcher on the trade front. Or it means AV may be on a leash. 

It is painful. We get leads and blow them. Hart's great saves are neutralized by turnovers. We do better shorthanded. Mac shows some spirit. For what?

Note that this sportsbook has this game pegged as a Stanley Cup favorite versus a team that hasn't figured it out yet with possible blow-up.

I wasn't able to watch.  It sounds like we competed.  But we can't seem to breach 2 goals.  Tonight follows that pattern.  I am glad Jones played well.

It looks like Bobo versus Jones in goal.  I have not seen a report on Brassard.  Whether or not he plays, I agree with Jordan Hall's assessment that this roster needs restructuring:

You won't win many games averaging 1.9 goals.  Our third defensive pairing is not holding up well, and Ivan Provorov was -3 against Tampa.  Our forwards are struggling.  This may be turning into a November we'd just as soon not remember.

Agreed-this was a tough game to watch. There are lots of shots, but little payoff. With Hayes and Brassard out, we won't break two goals per game.
