  1. I fixed your first line. I agree Suter is better defensively, but I don't know that I would go to say "far". When Carle was paired with Pronger, he looked terrific. Also, on the blocked shots: 2011-2012: Suter> 116 Carle> 154 2010-2012: Suter> 84 Carle> 157 Don't go hangin' your hat on the blocked shots because over the last two years it is not even close (carle blocks 33% more).
  2. I think for 3 years I could live with Doan on G's wing. Remember when Knuble went to washington (at the age of 38), he did damn fine for his first couple of years. Doan is a much better skater than Knuble too.
  3. Pass on nash and sign Doan. I don't get the gushing for Nash. A world top player, sure. But something the Flyers need (to give up Schenn and Couturier)- it would be a dive by accident to me. I would look, blink and keep driving.
  4. I just think for the longevity of Giroux, you need some size on the wings or else the forwards will run roughshod over him.
  5. Just send your pigeon over for a bottle or two. I'll pay for the bottles if you pay for the pigeon feed.
  6. @radoran Great work. I am very tired and hungover from the @DaGreatGazoo pigeon delivery. Are you telling me that a NHL team has to have to allot cap space for all two-way contracts during the summer months? Is that what everything boils down to?
  7. There is an option on polls to let voters see who voted for what. It's your poll, but I personally find it interesting to see who voted for what. I mean this is not Parliament or Congress. Just saying. :-)
  8. The 2nd round pick thing was a joke (which I saw FC beat me too) Not to be dimwitted (okay- I am), but what is a "tagging room"? If its a room with 4 girls and two guys, I am game (just don't tell my wife). On the cash/ cap front, why do you say we don't have the money? We currently have 11.4m. Doan 4.1 / 4 years Carle 4.5 / 4 years Voracek 3.1 / 3 years We are over by 300k based on the above assumed cap hits. That does not include prongers LTIR credit of 5m- which gives us room to sign the RFA's (Bourdon particularly) and a back-up goalie. My understanding is we can not use Prongers cap until the season starts, but we are allowed to be 10% over the cap (7m) prior to the season starting. Its a wash as long as we do not exceed Prongers cap hit. Of course all of this is under the current CBA which will have been expired before the season.
  9. Not the way it work mate. Cap is a proration of the contract. The last years cap hit is the same as the first years. How the cash is actually paid (salary) is completely different. For example, Breezy is a cap hit of 5.66M for the length of his contract (9 years). However, nearly 50% of the contract value (51M) of salary will have been paid by the conclusion of his third year. Where that becomes relevant is teams that are cash constricted but cap rish (meaning that they have cap room, but not cash to spend). With doan / Flyers it is a non issue. The Flyers are one of the richest teams in the league and can afford to bite the bullet on "write-off salary". Cap is another issue entirely, though this may be (depending on the summer) the first year that they are not up against the cap wall.
  10. If you are going to do that kind of contract, Doan is the guy you do it for. 4.1, for four years with NMC is fine.
  11. @Flyercanuck You beat me to it- damnit!
  12. Other than trying to get a couple of our 2nd round picks back!!
  13. Hey Jammer- I am on the opposite end of your view. You say a guy that "might have 1 year left"? What gives you that thought? The guy has been playing 20 minutes a night and 95% of his games his entire carreer. I can see you saying that for some players, but Doan is not the guy you say that about. In fact, in the final game against LA, he logged 29 minutes of ice time. What part of any of that inclines you to suggest he is 1 year away from retirement?? If he is willing to take a 500k pay cut, I pay him the 4.1 for four years- in a heart beat. He is a tremendous leader, a non-stop worker in a player and EVERYTHING you want the kids on the team to see and learn from. We all lauded how stunned we were at Jagrs attributes that he brought this year- Doan is that factored by 4.
  14. Actually, could do four years. I mean everyone is talking about 4 players for Ryan at 5.1m and he is a UFA after three years. What is the difference if you get Doan at 1m less a year, and save all your assets? I like Ryan, but I love Doan. Hartnell-G-Doan would be a monster line. Then I go with Schenn-Couturier-Voracek as my second line. How are opposing teams going to be even remotely able to deal with those skills and more importantly tenacity???
  15. I think Meltzer has been reading this Forum. I mentioned Doan 3 weeks ago. My response is "in a heart beat". 3 years at his current pay rate.
  16. Why are you always making fun of me??
  17. Thanks Howie. I have a really good friend that lives at Cape Cod- and is a Wine procurer if that is the right term. Basically, he finds nice vintage wines in various places and then distributes them to others that are seeking. If you'd like, I can put you in touch with him. He is a nice guy - and great chef. He is excellent at pairing wines with dinners. I am too busy drinking my Old Milwaukee to get involved into that part of society. Seriously, where I live, there is no such thing as a decent wine unless you want to pay highway robbery imported prices. Same for beer. I guess the good news is there is REALLY good local rum here and it cost you the same price as a liter of cola. Combine that with the local fresh pinepple and mango juice and you are good to go. How is the southern Florida summer treating you??
  18. don't believe everything you read. Schenn plays Center / LW and Read plays Center / RW. :-)
  19. Damn those pigeons of yours spying on me!!!
  20. Its okay, but I would rather have size on both sides of Giroux. That said, I think it would work- just not sure if it helps for Giroux durability. One thing that can not be mistaken is that even though he was waning in the last third of the season, Jagr big body took up space (like a center in basketball). That space gives giroux time- which in turn keeps him from getting "caught" too often by bigger bodies. That is why if Jagr is not re-signed I would love to have Shane Doan. While not 6'3 like Jagr, he is 6'1 and 225 lbs. That is allot of meat- and he uses it tremendously well.
  21. No, just hurting because of economics (lade off- temporarily).
  22. Well, when you send a pigeon to deliver something to right next door, I think they start to think WTF, lazy bastards!! (It would be a good far side skit, eh)?
  23. @jammer2 That is extremely stunning to me as well. I would not even have Bure on a any ballot. Federov before him (Bure). What a great snap shot! I remember both his Blues days more than his Red Wings. On the Wings, he always seemed 2nd - 3rd fiddle and perhaps that costed him. Next time around he will go in. I don't know the voting process, but I agree that Bure before Shanahan on first ballot is a travesty. What did bure ever do??
  24. @ Why did you change your name? Everytime I see a post from you I am thinking Chinese. No lie. It is 5:30 am where I am and I am going to make chicken fried rice for my nephew for breakfast and a grilled sandwhich and soup for lunch. No lie. LA rode the right horse. It was touch and go just at you stated. Quick was to be the back up and Bernier was to be the stud. The irony is that I think Quick will walk next year (UFA) and Bernier will sign a 5 year deal next year (RFA). Both get a ring and both get paid. Can you adopt my combo name: Nodiz? You have to admit it is pretty funny. There are no copy rights etc. It beats the hell out of Noodl (I am fat enough without thinking about chinese food every post you make!). Oh, speaking of chinese food, I have to go make chicken fried rice!!! I wish @DaGreatGazoo would get over here with rum, but oh well.
