  1. @jammer2 I am with you. Considering that this is a hockey first forum and not a Flyers forum, I find both B21 and Polaris refreshing-especially given our harsh rivalry. If I was having a BBQ at my place and 5 of my closest Flyer fans friends were attending, I would have NO qualms about inviting @B21 and @Polaris922 to the BBQ. Both epitomize what I view this forum to be about: able to converse hockey without be a troll or ****- regardless of how opposite the point of view might be.
  2. It seems they all have an axe to grind. Its just that he has been grinding his harder and longer than the others. The fact that he has a job with CSN is utterly comical to me. The guy is really a Pittsburgh fan (who is that guy from Philly.com / PTPITN that is son?). I did not mind the son, but sr. is so biased it is not funny. He is also lazy.
  3. For me, I would rather give true picks. That said, even in the pronger situation, here is what it plays out to: 1) Lupul (which Anaheim turned into Beauchemin while giving top prospect Gardiner in the process) 2) Sbisa- still developing 3) 2009 1st rounder- John moore who was turned into 2009 1st round pick (#26-Kyle Palmieri- has played 18 games thus far for the ducks) 2009 2nd round pick (#37-Matt Clark- has not played a game yet for Anaheim) 4) 2010 1st rounder- Emerson Etem- has not sniffed pro ice yet. So, the current impact on Anaheim for the Pronger trade is this: 1) Sbisa- currently 4/5 defenseman. 2) Beuchamin (minus Gardiner) They have some good prospects, but none of them have arrived. Would you do Sbisa & Beuchamin plus 3 prospects for Pronger and Gardiner? This is a great example of how these things play out. Now back to your point on Weber and 6 first rounders. That will never happen. While Poile and Holmgren have a great relationship, Holmgren tender and offer sheet TODAY to Weber where the maximum return for Nashville would be four 1st round picks. All trades have to be viewed in that vein. Most clubs would rather have a) something that will help them immediately along with b) more pieces that will help them long term. Which takes us back to the pronger trade. NOTHING helped them immediately. Lupul was a cash dump on the Flyers part. Had he not have the blood disease he came down with, he could have helped them immediately. That is an annomally I guess. But at the end of the day, Anaheim did not wreap and rewards of that trade until they got Beauchamin. Luke Schenn + B. Schenn would + picks would be way too much. Luke Schenn + #1 prospect (NOT playing on the Flyers) + 2 #1 picks would be fine. IMHO of course.
  4. You know you can edit your post too. If you re-read it and want to put different points in that you intended.
  5. Between him and that quiqly dude, I just have to roll my eyes.
  6. Nice avatar- not quite as nice as @JackStraw, but still pretty nice. Cheers.
  7. Me either and I found at least two of his points complete bs. You get better points from 90% of the fans / poster5s here (including other teams posters) than bleacher report and this one particular.
  8. I don't mind people eating something that is indiginous to their environment as part of their available food source. But when it becomes a delacacy and THAT is the only reason to eat it, it agitages me. But it is very subjective. I love eating sushi and while fish is a natural food source, some might say it is a delicacy. BTW- Unagi (fresh water eel) tastes allot like chicken.
  9. Bobovskry the former and Bryzgalov the later.
  10. good points on stevens. I forgot about him. On recchi- he was very one dimensional when we got him from pitt. I liked the post Canadien version of him better than the post Pitts version of him.
  11. And other teams have figured out that dimension. He can still play, but he is not the 70 point guy he was when he first came in the league. He is a 60 point guy and probably will continue to be that unless he plays with players who are superior to him.
  12. Ladyneat does a decent job of chronicling the camps with pictures, but this was a different person. He would write about 1000 words (very articulate and objective) on each day of camp. No offense to LadyNeat (whom I have actually met at the camps), but this guy was extremely insightful and borderline scout perceptive on his writeups and objectivity.
  13. Wow!!! I never knew that. And what is funny for me is that I think Kane is extremely one dimensional. Good player for sure, great - sometimes. Yet to even mention him in a class of Crosby is absurd. Kane is a player that is better by the players around him. Crosby is a player that makes other players around him better.
  14. This day in age is much different than even 15 years ago. Everything is instant. My time from Vancouver has been gone for awhile (but may soon be returning). When there, I watched allot more junior hockey (including down the corridor in Seattle and Portland). The two I trust now are Jammer and FC. That said, Timmonen was a 10th round draft pick.
  15. Saw and noted that as well. Any of our top four get hurt (knock on wood), what do you do (move Schenn / MAB up) or want a Col. / Gervais to take the place? P.S. That lack of RH shot drives me crazy with the Flyers!
  16. I get that and agree. For the first time in a long time, the Flyers have money- albeit by accident. The key to what you list for me is Meszaros and Grossman (both of whom I really like). They are the guys that need to eat some more minutes to help Timonen. I think people are underestimating Schenn. He has had erratic play, but he is no slouch. He was thrown into the lions den in Toronto and was playing 23 minutes a night for stretches of time there. I guess I would have preferred Colaiacovo over Gervais as the insurance policy. Gervais is 875k cap hit and we probably would had to pay C. 2.7 - 3m.
  17. I missed this thread. After what you said, I would definitely go after him. Why didn't we pursue him instead of Gervais???
  18. Really? I am just going off the statisticians: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/2853/career;_ylt=AnWiWjx_TRV2XZAvlk3e.uhivLYF He has 200 career hits. That is nearly a third less than Schenn had for last year.
  19. Well, there is actually something to be said for humid heat versus arid heat. Both are hot either way. In Colorado Springs, we were already at 7400 feet above sea level (nearly a mile and 1/2). A 90 degree day would feel like an 80 degree day. The problem is because it is high elevation and arid, you dehydrate before you know it. Then you drive up into the mountains and go up to about 9-10k feet. 10 degrees was on average, but often more cooler than that.
  20. PG- No offense, but this guy is not physical in the least. He makes Carle look like Chris Pronger.
  21. Risky to the dollars he may want, but he has in fact played more games in the last 4 years (included the past two seasons) than Gervais. Colaiacovo has averaged 65 games the last 4 years (including the last two). Gervais has averaged 60 the last 4 and only 50 the past two. So, who is more fragile? Your point is a good one. For me it comes down to role available. Gervais signed on the cheap. C. will probably want 2m as he had a really good year. I think C is a poor mans Carle. Thats all- and if a top 4 injury occurs, can handle that work load adequately.
  22. @Phillygrump I just think we need another low risk (cap) high reward guy. Carlo can play some minutes too (managed 19m a night while playing under Hitchcock). A move like this would put Iyjla in the pressbox most nights until an injury occurs give MAB / Gus 5th /6th opportunities. ' I guess my question would has the ship sailed with the signing of Gervais (or whatever his name is)? While I like the RH shot of Gervais, it seems that he is neither a durable or defensively responsible (though hard to judge when looking at the Tampa / NYI he has played for). When I look at Colaiacov, I see a guy that can step in to a top 4 role when injuries occur and without injuries is more than capable for 16-17 min a night on the 5/6 position. MAB and Gus will never be tandemed together as a 5/6. I could easily see MAB with a Colaicovo player getting 15-17 minutes a night. All that said, it will probably cost 2.75 - 3m to get Colaiacovo and he will want 4 ish years. So, we paid .875 to Gervais. Top 5 Kimmo Cobourn Grossmann Meszarous Schenn 5-8: MAB Gervais / Colaiacovo Iyjla Gust. If the top 5 stay healthy, I guess its okay wtih Gervais. Colaiacovo could have been a very nice addition though. Iyjla is a waist to me at this point. So, I guess I just wend circular in my conversation. Colaiacovo would not be worth 2.7-3M for his available role on this team. But I certainly like him allot more than Gervais.
