There is a funky rule where he needed to sign an ELC with the Flyers by x date in March (which did not happen), so no, he is not eligible for the NHL this year. I think it has to do with poaching (similar to juniors). NHL teams can not try and load up on "stud" NCAA players while said players are still playing for their schools.

Parks will be good for the Phantoms, but don't expect more than that.

You also have to admit it was a weird question to a guy coming off the game of his live in a post presser. Everything I have seen and read about him shows a cool, humble, level headedness. Only the Ruskies make comments like that.

There is an added element to this that IMO should not be overlooked. While not the Flyers fault, MacDonald has played pro hockey for 7 years at an average of 490K a year. While most of us would be jubilant and certainly MacD's agent(s) should be fired, that is grossly underpaid for a guy playing 12-20min of NHL hockey a night. My point is that he needed to be made whole. So, the flyers throw 3M more at him for the term of the contract than he is probably worth (at max). He is happy and now set for life. I looked at the comparables and am hard press to see one or two out of 8-10 that I would want (same age, same term).

Thanks for posting this. Too much was being made out of him not wanting to play for the Flyers. I think it was a euphoric slip and not what he intended to say. The philly audience gasped at his play and I am sure the boys upstairs courted him well. Him and Bodie (signed with the Rangers) are both small in stature and will need to beef up a bit before making the jump to the bigs. The fact Ghost is forgoing his education to get his feet wet at the pro level bodes very well for his development. He will get a couple of games in, a rookie camp this summer. What is the black aces again??

I don't think its fair to compare a Carle to a MacDonald. MacDonald has a much better sense in the d-zone and makes smart break out plays. He will never be a 30 point guy, but his hits (while not bruising, still there) and his blocks balance out what a Carle brings you. I think its about 250k too much, but I am okay with that. Look at the list of others there with 6 years that are at, slightly below, or slightly higher.

Yeah, and perhaps it was that passion that made me think he was better than Crosby a few years back (you know, when Crosby was doing all his whining?). I just don't get the Russian players at all (Datsyuk aside and a few others that have played for the wings). Most are just utterly selfish hockey players (bobrovsky gets a pass on this too). Edmonton is kicking themselve for the Yakupov (sp) pick (even though the writing was on the wall at the world juniors with him).
