  1. I say eff it. Let it just be a hard line all the way through. I know the NHLPA will kick and scream as well as the honors / gm's. Truthfully and this has been rehashed to death, just do away with the instigator rule and be done with it. I am not talking about let your fourth line goon match up to the others teams fourth line goon on a face off and say "should we make our pay check tonight", I am talking about the heat of the battle stuff that when crap like last night happens retribution is immediate.
  2. Exactly my point. For me, its the intent. Nothing less, nothing more. That play had intent written all over it. That hit makes Kornwall look like a saint.
  3. Thanks. I was actually wondering about that. I had a tickling notion that was not permissible for all contracts. Its stupid in my mind. As long as teams are not hiding money to avoid the cap, I think it should be permissible. For any contract. The only reason I could see as a negative is if the player sustains a significant injury that prevent / hinders them from obtaining bonus objectives.
  4. Agreed. Couts will get his pay day when his current contract expires. @doom88 is right about defense is not sexy, but it should not be ignored. I would like to see couts find his offensive game a bit more (he was a 2nd leading scorer twice in junior, while playing the same stifling defensive play).
  5. Fine, if that is the letter of the law, then for me its and eye for an eye. Every game that the player misses, the instigating player should miss as well, not including games for the infraction itself. So, in this example Prust should miss every game that Stephan misses plus the two games that the NHL thought the infraction warranted.
  6. I would be fine with that contract and put bonuses in to bump the value should he exceed that pay level in performance. I am a firm believer in carrot philosophy for anything in life. You do well, you get rewarded. The problem is that B. Schenn is looking across the dressing room at VLC and saying WTF.....I want his money! (not literally but figuratively).
  7. Good point. I would like to defend the 10 for carcillo (less games) because of your point, but just can't because....its carcillo. That said, the linesman should get suspended the same number of games.
  8. I abhor this as an index on how long a suspension should be. If there is no injury, but the intent is the same, it should be punishable the same. That said, regardless of result, 2 games is a complete joke.
  9. Carcillo gets 10 games and prust gets 2.
  10. Really?? I have to say that is a stunning statement (on Jokinen). He might need a bump in his pay scale and want 2 or 3 years, but the guy exceeded expectations for his pay grade imo. Reg season- 21g / 36a / 57 pts, / +12 and 4 game winning goals; Playoffs- 7g / 3a / 10 pts (2nd on the team behind malkin) / +5 and 3 game winning goals (led the team). All that for a paltry 3m a year. Also, he does not hinder the team in taking stupid penalties. One mans trash is another mans treasure and I would gladly welcome him to the Flyers at that cap hit.
  11. All joking aside, this is 100% accurate. You could do much better than him (ie. guy with experience / track record). TFF is right that we poke fun at him incessantly here (shooting fish in a barrel), but he does have hockey knowledge. But he does not have the items you just cited. How the pens could let an experienced stanley cup winning GM go (shero) and replace with a novice in the skill set needed for a GM would be a mammoth slap in the face to Shero (regardless if they are best buddies).
  12. I have been very impressed with his play this playoff. He always has been a perimeter player, but is now going to the dirty areas on the ice. Suter is a tough coach and appears to whipped him into shape (figuratively speaking). No regrets here either. We got Coutiere and Voracek for him.
  13. @ruxpin brought up a good point regarding VLC and speed of western conference play. I always thought in my mind that VLC had speed. Not first step speed but still speed because of his height / gate. Because he was mostly invisible to me in the games I was able to catch, I never noticed that he is not fleet of foot as Ruxpin alludes to. That said, VLC just needs to do pirouettes at center ice and then go into the offensive zone in lavy's system.
  14. We don't need anything back for him (thus why I say "future considerations"). We signed him as a UFA, so we have not lost any assets. I have the engine running and will drive him there now.
  15. I can't wait. Us Flyers fans already have a field day with Regis's slurping of the pens, it will be even more fun if he is GM.
  16. Really?- I like Grossman for what he is (better than Gill). Also, I have to give him props for playing on a nearly broken ankle last 10th of the season and into the playoffs.
  17. Hello Nashville. If I am the Flyers, I am calling Poile day and night. Of course VLC has to want to be a Country Bumpkin. But heck, if he can spend his career in Tampa, Nashville should fit like a warm glove. Plus he could get to play first of second fiddle there (they have nobody else). I would be calling Nashville and saying VLC and a 2nd for future considerations.
  18. I guess I was just thinking that he could get away with only playing 100ft of the ice easier in the West than the east.
  19. Truthfully, I think San Jose lets it ride out. They have Stalock in the wings (and perhaps ready for prime time). The only way you see a Miller in san jose is if they don't believe Stalock is ready and they are done with Niemi. Given Niemis salary, he is certainly moveable and serviceable. A neimi / miller change would be an apples to apples thing imo. If I am San Jose, I keep what I know and ride out the season to the trade deadline and if it turns out Stalock is my horse, I move Niemie at the trade deadline where his return will be the highest.
  20. He is signed through next season at a modest 3.8 m.
  21. Actually he is that bad. At least within context to the Flyers system / style of play. His 5-on-5 play is just atrocious. -16 for the regular season and -5 for the playoffs. Face off pctg at 43%. He doesn't hit / use his size to any advantage. Its a mammoth square peg in a round hole thing. Why homer thought we needed another center is beyond me. Put him on a western conference team where there is more free flow skating and perhaps he will do okay. On a pound and ground eastern style team, he wilts.
  22. Truthfully, its not that bad for them. They only have 48M on the books for next year and that is with 80% of the team under contract. The following year its 35M with 66% under contract. VLC's contract would not be a blow to them in a cap sense. I don't know fiscally what their black / red status is currently, but at the end of the day, they need to fill out their roster. They need a center and they desperately need offense. I think in Lavy's run and gun system, VLC could do better than he did with the Flyers (particularly if healthy). Is the contract 500K a year too much and 1 year too long, perhaps, but that is a bullet that Nashville could bite.
  23. They have laptops in applebee's now? My stomach is growling.
