  1. This was an ugly hit. http://video.nhl.com...9&cmpid=nhl-twt
  2. Jammer, Jammer! Wake up! It's time to post a mask!! LOL
  3. The inconsistensy is what I don't like. Establish a standard and stick to it.
  4. Good point, FC. His kids weren't over there with him, though. He was only over there temporarily. Getting traded would be a permanent move.
  5. If there was no shoot out, the Blackhawks record would be 18-0-5. They haven't lost a game in regulation or overtime. They've lost 3 in the shoot out and won 2. All 5 would have been ties pre shoot out. The Flyers went 25-0-10. Edit: The Blackhawks record would be 16-0-5. I was fully clothed when I posted this. I can only count to 21 if I'm naked!! Lol
  6. I think a little maturity has helped him, too.
  7. There's been a lot of talk about his family situation. He is a single father of 2 school age boys. The speculation is that he won't waive during the season and have to pull the boys out of school. It isn't unheard of for a player to not waive their NMC/NTC. in 07-08, Mats Sundin refused to waive his NTC and finished the season with Toronto. He went to Vancouver as an UFA the next season and Toronto got nothing. The risk Danny Briere is taking by not waiving his NMC is that he may be bought out at the end of the year. I'm not sure what the amount of money is that he would lose by being bought out, but I admire Danny for putting his kids FIRST and the money second.
  8. A couple days ago (in the shout box), I predicted that Columbus would beat them in last night's game. I will again say YES. I'm going to be right one of these days!
  9. The bone above the eye is the frontal bone and it is part of the orbit. Typically, the helmet would protect that bone but Brown & McGinn took off their helmets before they started throwing. In humans, seven bones make up the bony orbit: Frontal bone (Pars orbitalis) Lacrimal bone Ethmoid bone (Lamina papyracea) Zygomatic bone (Orbital process of the zygomatic bone) Maxillary bone (Orbital surface of the body of the maxilla) Palatine bone (Orbital process of palatine bone) Sphenoid bone (Greater and lesser wings)]]
  10. There are 6 or 7 bones (depending on the source) that make up the orbit. One of those is the zygoma or zygomatic arch. That is the bone under your eye most commonly refered to as the cheek bone. That bone is also the most common bone to fracture in a fight or a faceplant on the ice.
  11. Panthers have 6 guys in the line up that have spent time in San Antonio this year. Strachan, Roback, Shore, and Timmins all started the season down here and were called up. They also have a guy in IR (Caruso) that started down here got called up and broke his wrist. Santorelli & Gudbranson were sent down then called back up this year, also.
  12. It's probably a non-displaced simple fracture. He'll have a full shield or cage for sure when he comes back.
  13. http://www.startribune.com/sports/wild/193423981.html Pee-wee hockey coach in Canada gets 15 days in jail for tripping opposing player RICHMOND, British Columbia - A Vancouver pee-wee hockey coach has been sentenced to 15 days in jail for tripping a player during a postgame handshake. Martin Tremblay swept out the leg of an opposing player while the teams were going through the typical hockey ritual of lining up to shake hands after the game. Two players, a 10-year-old and a 13-year-old, fell to the ice. The move was caught on video and worked its way around the Internet. The 48-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of assault in November. Richmond provincial court Judge Patrick Chen gave Tremblay jail time, saying he wasn't satisfied that time served in the community was enough to denounce or deter the man for his actions.
  14. A legal line change = 6 men on the ice. They called it legal because the door opened even though no one left the ice.
  15. He does make some big saves. It's the average save that he can't make.
  16. You're not supposed to give a hint until 24 hours has past.
  17. Jake has been on fire recently. He has 5 goals and 7 assists in the last 4 games. Hopefully, the NHL wil reward him with the honor. He certainly deserves it.
  18. @JackStraw That was the best game in the NHL so far this year! Playoff hockey in February!
  19. @hf101, Wishful thinking. The AHL finally got replay for goals this year. The cameras are trained on the nets and don't follow the play. So far, that replay has worked for about 2 weeks (here in San Antonio) and I think they reviewed 3 goals. Nobody knows what is wrong with it or how to fix it. The team doesn't have the money to send it off to get it fixed. They would have to have several cameras following the play to make that kind of replay system work and there are few teams that have the funds in the AHL and even less (probably zero) in the ECHL.
  20. The linesman thought the Preds passed the puck back into the zone. Props to Trotz for keeping his cool and not getting a fine. Colorado's star looked offside on his second-period goal in the Avalanche's 6-5 win in a Monday matinee, but the officials ruled Nashville had brought the puck back into their zone. "The league already verified that it should have been an offside," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said shortly after the game. "The explanation from the crew here was that we passed it back. We didn't pass it back. That's why they didn't blow the whistle. The league's already talked to us about it. There's no fix. It's just one of those things. Everybody has a bad day."
  21. Here is today's update. http://www.masslive....de_macle_2.html SPRINGFIELD – With his parents and girlfriend at his side, Wade MacLeod of the Springfield Falcons was resting comfortably Monday at Baystate Medical Center. He continues to undergo observation and tests following his collapse late in the second period of Sunday’s American Hockey League game at the MassMutual Center. No official diagnosis of his injury and its cause will be forthcoming until later in the week. “Wade is resting, and feeling a lot better. He was alert all night, and he has a good appetite. His doctors and the hospital staff have been fantastic in their care,” said his stepfather, Garth Essery of Campbellville, Ontario. MacLeod declined to be interviewed, but did send word through his stepdad that he wanted to thank his teammates and Falcons fans for their concern. “There has been an impressive outpouring of support through the social media, and Wade is very appreciative of it. He thanks everybody for thinking of him,” Essery said. In Sunday afternoon’s American Hockey League game at the MassMutual Center, MacLeod took a hit from Adirondack Phantoms defenseman Brandon Manning, who was whistled for a boarding penalty. As MacLeod headed back to the Springfield bench, he collapsed on the ice. Falcons management indicated that MacLeod, a 26-year-old right wing, had suffered a seizure. After he was taken to the hospital, players and coaches of both teams agreed that the game should be postponed. “It did not look like that bad of a hit. He sort of got rubbed along the board, a part of hockey. It didn’t look like there was any intent to injure,” Essery said. He and his wife, Colleen MacLeod Essery, came to Springfield for the weekend from their home in Campbellville to watch their son play. “This is a tough situation for us, but as hockey parents we know these things can happen. It turned out to be a difficult time, but the good thing is, we were here for him. I’ve known Wade and rooted for him since he was 16 years old. He’s never had any injury like this,” Essery said. “He has been playing so well lately, and we’ve been wanting to get here and see him and his girlfriend (Karly Duncan). We picked this weekend because Springfield had three home games, and it was a holiday weekend, just like here. We have Family Day in Canada at this time.” MacLeod's family fully supported the decision to postpone the game. “The decision reflected the mood. At that point, nobody had the heart to continue. The players and coaches, on both teams, were concerned about Wade,” Essery said. Naturally, questions arise as to what the future holds for MacLeod as a hockey player. “Of course he’s hoping to continue with his dream (of playing in the National Hockey League), but right now, his health comes first,” his stepfather said. MacLeod came to the Falcons in March of 2011, signing a pro contract after completing his career as a star for Northeastern in Hockey East. This season, he has four goals and six assists in 19 games after splitting his time between Springfield and Evansville of the ECHL. Lately, MacLeod stepped up as an offensive force as the Falcons saw some of their players promoted to Columbus. At the time of his injury, he had a string going in which he posted at least one point in eight games. As for MacLeod’s teammates and coaches, they had Monday off. They will get back to work Tuesday in preparation for another three-game weekend. Bruce Landon, the team’s president/general manager, will need to find a player to fill MacLeod’s roster spot. Prior to Sunday’s game, the team did make two changes, adding defenseman Cody Goloubef, sent back to them from their Columbus parent club, and signing right wing Kent Vogelhuber. Landon indicated that more changes might be forthcoming after Monday night’s game for Columbus at Anaheim. He’s also waiting to hear from AHL headquarters, and Adirondack club officials, before setting a makeup date for the Sunday postponement. One of the issues is, do the teams resume play at the point of postponement, with Adirondack leading 2-1, or do they replay the game from scratch? “Nothing to report yet,” Landon said.
  22. I think there is a combination of several factors. 1. The Flyers have always put a competitive team on the ice. Pre-salary cap, the organization wasn't afraid to spend money. After the cap was instituted, they tried (and still try) to keep the same philosophy, spend to the cap. So, they entice players to sign with them because of the big pay day then don't have the cap space to sign the middle of the pay scale support players. Use CapGeek to compare the Flyers to the Bruins, Rangers, Penguins, and/or for a perfect examples. 2. The draft has helped and hindered. The Flyers seem to do very well with their 1st round pick but haven't had as much luck in the subsequent rounds. They trade away a lot of these picks (especially 2nd round) trying to put a competitive team on the ice (see #1 above). The players chosen with the picks they don't trade don't seem to pan out. They haven't found any "diamond in the rough" kind of players. Name the last 4th round pick that has turned out to be a gem like a Pavel Datsuyk. I can't think of one. 3. The Flyers don't seem to follow the "Stanley Cup Model". For years the model was the smaller, faster player. Flyers had the big, slow, lumbering team that could not keep up with the smaller, faster teams. Now the model is a combination of big, physical and fast. And here are the Flyers, physical but rather smallish with some fast players. I don't believe the smallish players wear down a team even though they are physical. They just don't have enough oomph behind the physical play even though they lead the league in hits. Teams are not afraid to come to Philly like they used to be. They don't really have a heavyweight fighter. Sestito would probably qualify, but he isn't in the lineup enough. So the big fighter is 5'11", 165 lbs. A player like Colton Orr can run around without having to face the music. Shelly would just bleed on him. 4. Weak development of draft picks & minor league players. I really think the Phantoms moving to Adirondak has hurt the Flyers. The Flyers have lost control and visibility over the Phantoms and thet shows in the attitude towards the team. When the GM comes out and says he really doesn't care what happens with the Phantoms, well, that's pretty telling. Hopefully, that relationship will get better when the team moves to Allentown. 5. The Flyers have done well in finding undrafted/NCAA players. Matt Read is a good find. Harry Z & Manning have an upside, too. They probably won't be as good as Read but do add some depth. That said, you can't build an organization with the occaisional find. Fix #2 and this becomes a bonus.
