  1. Come on, man! You act like he shot it on net himself. It deflected off of him be cause he was in the right position. 1/2 inch more to the left and it would have been a blocked shot. Coburn actually had a solid game. He was a +1, 3 blocked shots, and the GWG.
  2. @Digityman, Didn't know that. Thanks. I better get a nap in this afternoon so I don't fall asleep during the game!
  3. After a week off, teams usually look a little rusty. I can't imagine they could look any slower than they have in the first 8 games. Hopefully, they can break that trend.
  4. @yave1964, I can only somewhat agree with this. The only consistency is the fact that he increases the number of games for suspensions that involve a head injury, not just the headshot. In other words, he suspends based on the result of the play and not the action. I will say that this year he has consistently given five-game suspensions for plays that involve a head injury. That is the only consistency that I see. This hit is identical to the Grabner hit on Gerbe. The only difference in these hits is the fact that Gerbe was not injured. Grabner was given a two game suspension, Scott will get at least five. Here is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. In January, Brayden Schenn was suspended one game for charging against Anton Volchenkov. Less than six weeks later, Harry Zolnierczyk was suspended four games for an identical hit. Both Schenn and Zolnierczyk came onto the ice from the bench and proceeded directly to the player that they fouled. Both players launched themselves into their opponent. The only difference is the fact that Mike Lundin was injured and Volchenkov was not. Zolnierczyk was punished based on the result of the play and not the action. These plays are so identical that, if you could dub out the names in Shanny's video, you couldn't tell them apart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvRFtggbhCI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypW1CeNCmt0 Summarizing, the only consistency I see is the plays that involve head injuries getting a longer suspension.
  5. @bunnyman, I think it has more to do with the availability of equipment. There aren't many left handed guitar players because the left handed guitars are hard to find. If left handed kids want to learn to play a guitar, most learn on a right handed guitar. Same kind of thing with goalies. Lots of youth hockey gear is used, loaned, or hand-me-down. Unless your parents are rich (like Polaris ), most kids will get the used, loaned, or hand-me-down gear. I can't remember ever seeing a right hand catching goalie in youth hockey when my kids played. Along the same lines, back in the Russian Red Army hockey days, all Russian players were lefty because they only had lefty sticks in Russia. That has since changed (righty sticks are available) but Russian players are still predominantly lefty shooters. I'm right handed. I should be shoot left but I don't. I shoot right because my first stick was a righty. (probably explains why I can't stick handle to save my life)
  6. Stars' Garbutt gets five-game suspension for hit on Penner NEW YORK -- The NHL has suspended Dallas Stars forward Ryan Garbutt five games for charging Anaheim forward Dustin Penner. The incident occurred at 6:28 of the first period in Anaheim's 6-3 home win over Dallas on Sunday. Garbutt left the penalty box and skated at Penner before leaving his skates to deliver a check. He hit Penner in the head, and the Anaheim forward had to leave the game. Penner didn't travel with the team for a road game in Toronto on Tuesday. No penalty was called on the play. Garbutt will forfeit US$14,743.60 in salary. He is eligible to return for the Stars' Nov. 3 game in Ottawa. http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=60&id=466419&navid=DL|NHL|home
  7. He was offered that in person hearing. That gives Shanny the option to suspend him for more than five games. I don't believe he will get more than five games. Past suspensions have only been for two games for the similar type it. We'll see if he suspends based on the results of the play and not the action.
  8. @Mad Dog, No offense intended, but this part of you post is quite bi-polar. What are you trying to say?
  9. @yave1964, I think it is a classic example of penalizing based on the result instead of the action. I think the Grabner hit on Gerbe was far more egregious than this hit. It seems like if the boards were involved (see this hit and the Lapierre hit on Boyle, 5 games each) then the suspension is stiffer. Open ice hits only get 2 games. We'll see how many games Garbutt gets for his open ice hit on Penner.
  10. http://www.mercurynews.com/sharks/ci_24354703/sharks-brent-burns-wont-play-against-red-wings Sharks' Brent Burns won't play against Red Wings DETROIT -- Rugged forward Brent Burns will sit out Monday night's game against the Detroit Red Wings after taking a hit to the mouth in Saturday night's win over the Calgary Flames. Burns' absence means that prospect Freddie Hamilton will play in his first NHL game and be on a line with Joe Thornton and Tomas Hertl. The injury to Burns aggravated an area that has been sore since a stray goalie stick knocked out several teeth in the Oct. 12 game against the Ottawa Senators. "He got hit in the teeth — well, he doesn't have teeth so I guess in the gums -- the other night and they're bothering him right now," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said. "He'll be out tonight and hopefully he's ready to go when we get to Boston." San Jose Sharks Brent Burns (88) during a break in the action as they get ready to face-off against New York Rangers in the third period at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013. (Josie Lepe/Bay Area News Group) ( Josie Lepe ) Hamilton, 21, was on San Jose's opening day NHL roster, but was sent to Worcester before the Sharks' first game two nights later. He acknowledged some disappointment in that development, but said he was excited about the opportunity tonight. "There's definitely been a lot of ups-and-downs this year," Hamilton said. "I'm just trying to keep my emotions pretty even. It was tough but it's a good learning experience and in the end I think it'll just make me stronger." Hamilton, who has one goal in two games with Worcester, is the older brother of Boston Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton. "I think it's been a little tough for him — being the little brother and making it in the NHL first," Freddie Hamilton said. "I've been proud watching him and I think he feels the same about me now." McLellan said there wouldn't be any special one-on-one sessions with Hamilton before the game. "There's enough stress right now on a young man coming up right now and playing his first game. We don't want to over-burden him with tactics or anything like that," McLellan said. "He knows how to play. He's familiar with our group."
  11. ISLANDERS F GRABNER SUSPENDED TWO-GAMES FOR ILLEGAL HIT New York Islanders forward Michael Grabner has been suspended two-games for an illegal check to the head of Carolina Hurricanes forward Nathan Gerbe. The incident occurred in the first period of Saturday's game, there was no penalty called on the play. Gerbe was not injured and played regular shifts throughout the game. http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=60&id=464829&navid=nhl:topheads
  12. AVALANCHE F MCLEOD SUSPENDED FIVE-GAMES FOR BOARDING Colorado Avalanche forward Cody McLeod has been suspended five-games for his hit on Red Wings defenceman Niklas Kronwall during Detroit's 4-2 win on Thursday night. McLeod, who was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct in the first period for boarding and Kronwall was taken from the ice on a stretcher. After the game, the Red Wings told the media that Kronwall had sustained a concussion. http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=60&id=464830&cmpid=nhl-twt
  13. The thing is, they don't have plenty of time. They have the worst record in the league. They're playing like crap and (8 games into the season) I'd be willing to bet they lead the league in days off! The Phoenix Goalie has more goals than 14 Flyers (only 2 Flyers have more goals than Smith). They need to be on the ice working and the bottom line is, they're not. Three days is like a normal break between games. They've squandered three days already. Practice for three days and then take a day off, if needed. It tells me that the systems (or lack thereof) that Berube is using are not much, if at all different than Lavy's. More of the same... I usually don't get this worked up over this team, but this whole situation is pissing me off. @Philly29, no offense intended in my posts.
  14. What part of THEY TOOK THE WEEKEND OFF do you not understand. Let me outline their mini camp schedule for you: Friday Oct 18: Day off Saturday Oct 19: Day off Sunday Oct 20: Lecavalier & Hartnell Skate. Team outing at the Eagles game. Now tell me how that equates to "skating, working, strategies"? Help me out here!!
  15. So you think the team is going to get better by not working, not skating? They're only 8 games into the season!!! There is no freakin way they need to get away from the game for a while! They just had 5 months off!! "Practice...We talkin about practice?
  16. What mini camp? They took the weekend off. What f u c k in mini camp????????????????????????????
  17. BIRON ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT AFTER 16 NHL SEASONS Goaltender Martin Biron announced his retirement at the age of 36 on Sunday, after playing parts of 16 NHL seasons. The New York Rangers put Biron on waivers last week, at which time he said he needed to talk to his family and friends and consider his options. Biron was assigned to the Hartford Wolfpack on Tuesday, but he did not report. "After thinking about it with my family, I've decided to retire as a player and move on to a new chapter," Biron wrote on his verified Twitter account. "Thank you all for your support." Biron went 230-191-52 with a 2.61 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in 508 games with the Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, New York Islanders and Rangers. He gave up nine goals on 38 shots in two appearances this season before being waived. Biron, a native of Lac-Saint-Charles, Que., played three seasons in the QMJHL for the Beauport Harfangs and the Hull Olympiques. He was the 16th overall pick of the Sabres in 1995 and started there until he was displaced by Ryan Miller and requested a trade. He spent two-plus seasons with the Flyers before going to the Islanders and then serving as Henrik Lundqvist's backup on the Rangers. Biron missed the start of training camp to attend to a personal situation. Not long after he arrived, the Rangers released veteran goalie Johan Hedberg from a professional tryout. His early-season struggles led to the Rangers calling up 26-year-old Cam Talbot from the AHL. New York starter Lundqvist went 2-4-0 with a 3.45 goals-against average and .890 save percentage in his first seven appearances. Biron's retirement brought an outpouring of support on social media, from current and former teammates including Rangers defenceman Michael Del Zotto and forward Brian Boyle, Philadelphia Flyers assistant coach Ian Laperriere and Phoenix Coyotes enforcer Paul Bissonnette.
  18. I thought the collision with Briere was incidental. Nystrom was moving over to cover Danny then looked away and lost track of where Danny was. Agree.
  19. I disagree with Gill. I remember the "Pronger Chews Out Giroux" incident in 2011. Pronger pulled G aside and got loud on him. I'm all for it if it gets a player to wake the F up!!
  20. I don't see anything happening, either. But who knows. Homer has surprised us before with a dumb move. Maybe he'll do it again. Berube's idea of running a mini camp is to give the team the weekend off.
  21. Quote Really?!? You have a new head coach, a week without games, and a chance to have a "mini-camp" so all the players get used to the new systems and they're taking the weekend off?!? What am I missing here?
  22. It means he is eligible for 5 or more games. It doesn't necessarily mean he will be suspended for 5 or more. That said, Shanny just suspended Maxim Lapierre for 5 games. I would expect McLeod to get 5 games , also
